2,3 and 5 Steve.....think i know 4....should know one cos ive been there Dozens of time.....oh and the Isle of Sheppy has got to be one of the most bleakest places ive been too!

How did these Islands get their names.

1) Isle of Dogs.
2) Isle of Sheppey.
3) Isle of Man.
4) Isle of Mull.
5) Isle of White (easy one).

Answers.

1). King Edward 3rd and Henry 8th kept hunting dogs there. (plus other vague reasons)
2). Originally known as Sheep Isle.
3). Named after Mannanan, the British gaelic god of the seas.
4). Muile, Scots gaelic for Round hill. ( I think)
5). Generally for it's chalk geology. Also Anglosaxon Wihtgar - 'White spear'. Possibly referring to the Needles.
