1). King Edward 3rd and Henry 8th kept hunting dogs there. (plus other vague reasons)
2). Originally known as Sheep Isle.
3). Named after Mannanan, the British gaelic god of the seas.
4). Muile, Scots gaelic for Round hill. ( I think)
5). Generally for it's chalk geology. Also Anglosaxon Wihtgar - 'White spear'. Possibly referring to the Needles.
