Peggy is Margaret Renaldson born 1791. I've been looking up Joseph's brother Henry whose son Samuel married into my family. Francis was born 1788 Otley. Francis is a tea dealer.

Dear Duckweed,
Thankyou for your reply.

According to my father who, unfortunately died in 1974, aged 65 Joseph Blakeborough's youngest son left the family home. For me to be related to him, he or a relative of his must have ended up in London. My father was born Leslie Herbert Blakeborough in 1909.

Yes I have one Francis B Blakeborough born 1849 in Otley son of Joseph Blakeborough. Hydraullic Engineer Traveller found in 1881 in Paddington with wife Jane also born in Otley but in 1853 daughter Florence born Paddington 1881. Does this sound like your man?

Dear Duckweed,

Thankyou again for your help

He sounds like the person I am looking for because it fits in with what my father told me, and I can't imagine there would be many people travelling from Otley to London in the 1800s.

So Francis B blakeborough's daughter would have been 28 when my father was born, so if I am related to her she should be my father's mother and my grandmother.

Found it couldn't be because he returned to Yorkshire to Halifax and no son was born. Looked at telephone directory in 1935 and found J Blakeborough and Sons in Holburn, engravers and valve makers. I know that Blakeboroughs invented a hydrallic valve used in plumbing so is this a connection? My guess is Francis B went to London to sell their valve and an office was set up there and then someone else went there to live. There is a Walter R Blakeborough born in same district as your father in June 1918 mothers surname Beedham. Is this an uncle. Have you got your fathers birth certificate or marriage certificate? This would establish father's name and occupation. Your father is down as born Sept quarter 1908 Islington

Hi. I'm related to Joseph Blakeborough - he is my great, great, great, great ??? uncle (sorry not sure how many greats!?). My grandfather was Ralph Blakeborough and he was managing director of J Blakeborough & Sons, and my father is Christopher Blakeborough who was also a director at Blakeborough's. Is this helpful? If you need any specific information, please let me know and I will try to help. Jane Blakeborough

Dear Janeblake

My father was from London and always claimed we were related to J Blakeborough and Co Ltd. Although one of is sons went to London with his wife (and had a daughter while staying in London) possibly to set up a factory or showroom and then moved back to Brig House. We don't seem to be related, but my father also said Joseph and his family were religious which gives the impression we could be related. I never found out who the manager in London was if he was a local man or a family member from Brigg House.

Hi Alan
My father (Christopher Blakeborough) would be the best person to contact. He has lived in Brighouse most of his live and has put together a very comprehensive family tree for the Blakeborough family. He also is very knowledgeable about the history of J Blakeborough and Sons. I'm sure he would be willing to help you with information. On a religious front he has strong ties to the church, as do many of my direct family.
His email is deleted for security reasons. The address has been passed on to Alan.
Regards
Jane
