But looking for other possible marriages that might explain the parents I can't find another and I can't find Leslie's birth.

I can find 8 with William J the first. Also, I can't find Rachel's death.

Oh, Leslie is the only one with mother not listed as Rachel. I've made no progress with Rachel either despite all her middle names. It would have to be Rachel's spouse John in the 1903 ER because son John was born in 1888. Lots of John JOHNSTONs but this may be John Snr's death:

Thank you very much. Yes, What a name :D but it's no help. I can't find a second marriage although it looks very much like it. I've checked all sorts of sites and ways and can't find anything on Rachel. I believe some NSW BDM CD have an 'R" to show the corrections to records and that should determine if the final reg is KEMP or RILEY.
