Yes, I remember my mother telling me she lived in a row house with her mother Ethel Appleby Dale. They were not well off having been abandoned by her father.
Thanks for the address. My grandfather remains a mystery. He was an engineer…my mother rarely spoke of him by respect for her mother who suffered with very little money for her two children and herself.
i know my grandfather Jack Dale tried to contact my mother wanting to see her when my mother went over for her uncle Erny´s or Ernie? funeral. My mother refused to see him by respect for her own mother. I think this is either in 1971 or 1972. My grandmother used to send us beautiful chocolate eggs by post at Easter. She passed away that Easter 1971 and I think her brother Ernie maybe six months later…don’t know much more. My Mum passed away in 2009.
i know for a fact she missed her father dearly all her life although he left her behind when she was three.

Yes I believe this is my mother. What seems strange though, she was born Thelma Dale in 1924 but not in october. She always told us and was celebrated on december 29th. She also changed her name to Doreen quite early on in her life. We found this out when she passed away in 2009.
Born in october, stange…but definitely 1924, must be her….where did you find this information? Very puzzling.

Thank you, I will look into this when I have a bit of time…My husband and I, myself 68, still working and quite busy with our family apple orchard - must try to find time to follow up on this…
My sisters and myself have always wanted to know more about our relatives (if we have any) etc but my mother seemed to leave her the past. When she was older, she missed England so much but wasn’t healthy enough to travel back. We were also very busy with our own families, work and children to be able to accompany her when she could have gone perhaps ten years before passing.
My mother also spoke often of wwII, and was mad that she lost her only brother 23 yers old in march 1945 just before the end of the war. He would write or phone her in London…told her they were bombing rubble in Germany. I believe he is buried somewhere in Europe but don’t know where…Austria, Holland, Germany where his plane was gunned down, His name was William Dale and he was an engineer and accompanied the pilots…was he a gunner, don’t know…

I'm beginning to think that it maybe the John - Jack conundrum where people born John become to be known as Jack. There seems to be no Jacks in the 1921 census in Newcastle they are all John.
