Hello,

I have a Jacob BARRACLOUGH b. abt 1809 Kirkburton - blacking maker / dyer journeyman

Spouse is Mary ARMITAGE b. 1812 Kirkburton

Known children all born in Almondbury are:

John
James
Benjamin
Sarah
Charlotte

Name: John BARROWCLOUGH
Birth: 21 Jan 1833
Christening: 22 Sep 1833 Queens St Wesleyan, Huddersfield, Yorkshire
Father: Jacob BARROWCLOUGH
Mother: Mary ARMITAGE

I notice FamilySearch regards Jacob as a variation of James.

While searching for a Jacob born about 1809 I found this family:

Benjamin BARROWCLOUGH & Esther - I can't find the marriage

Children:

Milley c. 1793 Holmfirth
John c. 1796 Holmfirth
Ann c. 1799 Holmfirth
Joseph c. 1801 Holmfirth
Benjamin c. 1803 Kirkburton
Charlotte c. 1806 Kirkburton
Jacob c. 26 Sep 1808 Jackson Bridge *** Hepworth Wesleyan

I wonder. Getting stronger. :D

The Joseph BARRACLOUGH born 1808 New Mill to Philip & Esther died in 1810.

Regards,

Dave

That is the only Jacob I can find who fits and I have the Wesleyan connection but it's not enough evidence.

Curious how there are baptisms for some of the children then only two birth records and then a single baptism at Jackson Bridge.

I've had no luck with Milley (Amelia / Emily) or Ann or Joseph. It's John and not Jonn here but is it the same person? No children named Benjamin or Esther.

name: John Barrowclough
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 15 Mar 1796
baptism/christening place: LANE INDEPENDENT,HOLMFIRTH,YORK,ENGLAND
birth date: 28 Feb 1796
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: Benjamin Barrowclough
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Esther
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:

That seems to be a Wesleyan chapel.

I can't assume it's the right family just because of the Wesleyan connection. Looking in RG4 there are hundreds of entries for Barraclough, not all Wesleyan though.

Even Fred agrees. :2fun:

At least Fred senior is easy to find when he cares to use his middle name Armitage.

Hi Dave

It is unfortunate that Barraclough is a common name in that area of England.

I have an ancestor Thomas John Roberts who never used his middle name. Yet it is given on his baptism and death cert. If he had used it during his life, finding him would have been a lot easier.

Ben

Yes, Ben, as is Armitage.

I guess I'll never know for sure if Benjamin is my Gx4 grandfather or not. At least I know the line goes back to Jacob:

Jacob BARRACLOUGH & Mary ARMITAGE
4 Jun 1832 Kirkheaton, Yorkshire, England
