Hello Julie,

Thanks.

There is no sign of a marriage for a James LUTON / LEWTON to an Ann but that does not mean there wasn't one.

Ok. 1871 as LEWTON please and that should solve one part of the puzzle.

Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Julie,

If they can't be seen in 1871 then it's possible that like his brother he married using the name LEAR for some reason.

There is no sign of a death for spouse Ann that fits in RD Keynsham 1861-1864.

I've not yet found James alone or with any family in shipping records. All I have is the bit from his death certificate: Died 1902: Time in Aust Colonies: 3 years in Victoria, 36 years in NSW.

I had no idea about possible children from his first marriage so now assuming Ann and the children came to Australia I will search for deaths here.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Julie,

Thank you very much.

I think we are dealing with the same James. The Hanham, Bitton is a good clue in 1841. It's just very curious how some records for James and his brother have LEAR.

I've only found that one reference where Joseph called himself LEWTON LEAR. Both death certificates just have LEWTON. And both marriages just have LEAR.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Julie,

:2fun:

I'll have to ask for one more. His brother has not been found in 1841 probably because we didn't look under LEAR. :D

Here he is in 1851:

1851 Wales Census
Civil Parish: Swansea
Registration District: Swansea
County: Glamorganshire
Address: - Street
LEWTON, Joseph Head Married M 25 1826 Cheese Factor (Hawking Cheese) Kingswood Gloucestershire
LEWTON, Mary Wife Married F 1828 Kingswood Gloucestershire
Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Julie,

Thanks for looking.

Sorry, I should have added the marriage was in 1847 so he'd be single. Looks as though the parents both died before 1841 and the four children had gone their own ways by 1841.

Also the other brother George has only been found in 1851 so he is yet to be found in 1841. I have nothing at all to suggest George might have used LEAR. I have his death in Australia - he is my GGG Grandfather.

1851
George Lewton
Age: 36
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1815
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Elizabeth
Gender: Male
Where born: Bitton, Gloucestershire, England
Civil Parish: Devizes St James
County/Island: Wiltshire
Country: England
Street address: nursery
Occupation: coach builder
Registration district: Devizes
Sub registration district: Bishops Cannings
Household schedule number: 125
Household Members: Name Age
George Lewton 36
Elizabeth Lewton 36
Elizabeth Lewton 13
Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Julie,

Thanks for looking.

Wish I could say yes, YES, YES :D

If that had been George and Joseph and Elizabeth. :2fun:

I have four children born to my Aaron LEWTON / LUTON & Ann HODGES:

George Lewton - 13th August 1815 at Hanham Abbots
Son of Aaron & Ann of Grimsby Green
Fathers Occupation - Fish Hawker
Reg: 2a Page: 18 No: 114

I have George from 1851 onwards to his death in Victoria.

Elizabeth LUTON - Aaron & Ann Batch: C043961
b. 26 Aug 1818 c. 22 Sep 1818 Kingswood School-Nc, Bitton, Gloucester, England

I've not tried to trace her yet.

James b. abt 1822 Bitton - no baptism found - looks as though we have him 1841-1861 and then in Victoria abt 1863.

Joseph b. abt 1826 Bitton - no baptism found - we have him in Wales in 1851 and on vessel in 1857 to Victoria.

BTW: There are TWO Aaron LUTONs and the one who married Hannah can be found in 1841 with several daughters is not my Aaron.

Regards,

Dave
