Hello,

James & Betty had a son James baptised 18 Nov 1821 at Almondbury.

I have found two married in 1841 but looking for a death in RD Huddersfield to 1851 for a James I can see a total of 12. It's possible neither of these is my James.

1841
Class H0107 Piece 1273 Book 2 Folio -- Page 1
CP: Almondbury
RD: Huddersfield
Sub-RD: Almondbury
Salford
James Armitage age 25 occ shoe m
Martha Armitage age 25
Both born in county
1841
Class H0107 Piece 1275 Book 5 Folio 45 Page 33
CP: Huddersfield
RD: Huddersfield
Sub-RD: Huddersfield
James Armitage age 20 occ green grocer
Mary Ann Armitage age 22
Both born in county
I'm having trouble finding the marriage to Martha, even allowing for James to be 4 years older than indicated and married at 17.

Found a possible although it's not Mary Ann.

Spouse: MARY ELLIS
Marriage: 23 APR 1832 Almondbury

Regards,

Dave

The daughter of James next door:

name: Ruth Armitage
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 04 Aug 1833
baptism/christening place: Almondbury, Holme-Bridge, York, England
birth date:
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: James Armitage
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Mary
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:
indexing project (batch) number: I03314-8
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 990856
reference number: item 146 p 19

I was looking to see if Mary's name was there. I've started looking to see how the family next door might be related.

I found the baptism of a different Alfred. Can't find Rebecca or Mary.

I can't find the marriage for that James & Mary that would be about 1828.

While looking for your Armitages, I found two Barnoclough children with Frances (Francis) and Betty Armitage as grandparents. Their abode is Newsom and with your Barroclough connection I wondered if you had this already or had no Barroclough/Armitage connection?? I can give you details if you want them.

Hello Barbara,

I do have a Barraclough/Armitage connection but both families names are very common in the area around of Huddersfield so it's possible they could be related and equally possible they are not.

Please give me the details because it is Newsom and I'll see where it takes me.

Regards,

Dave

Date and place fit but the names are not Francis & Betty.

Unless Francis/Frances is a mistranscription of James.

Just setting the cat amongst the pigeons!

You are so right, it was mistranscribed. Looks nothing like Frances.

This is why the experts say always look at the original.

I am trying to send it to you but with difficulty.
