Baptism

Janet Provan 22 September 1850 Bothwell, Lanark. Parents John Provan and Paterson McAlpine.

Marriage

John Proven and Patterson McAlpin 12 December 1841 Bothwell. Names as per the transcription.

Paterson Brown has to be an error ??

That column indicates if parents are deceased or where living as of shipping date 1883.

I can't find a death after 1883 for Paterson/Patterson Provan/Proven

Unless Paterson remarried ??

No mention of father John on the shipping record.

I should have searched past 1900 first try.

Not quite sure what is going on but 1851 Census in Bothwell has the following entry

John Brown 37 Coal miner Kilsyth, Stirlimgshire
Paterson Brown wife 30 Bothwell
Agnes Brown 9 dau Bothwell
Jean Brown 4 dau Bothwell
Janet Brown 0 dau Bothwell
Janet Mc Alpine 14 sister in law Bothwell

I cannot find a Provan family at all in 1851

1841 also in Bothwell has

Robert McAlpine 50
Agnes McAlpine 45
Robert McAlpine 25
Paterson McAlpine 15
Ann McAlpine 14
James McAlpine 11
John McAlpine 8
Janet McAlpine 3

Janet aged 3 in 1841 fits with the sister in law aged 14 1851

The only marriage I can see for Paterson McAlpine is to John Provan in 1841

Thanks Emeltee.

I don't know what is going on. The 1902 death looks to be the right one.

I'll return to this tomorrow.

The shipping record in post #5 has mother as Paterson Brown [living in] Lanark.

NSW Birth 28282/1892 ARNOTT REGINALD P R - GEORGE - JANE A - PADDINGTON

Initial P= Provan but no idea re initial R.

Some trees have little or no info on parents.. others have this, not validated.

"Death 8 Jun 1887 Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland"

Geoff

Thanks Geoff.

If that is correct it is not on SP. Only one death with given name John.
