Hello,

James ARROL b. 1859 Paisley, Renfrew

Ellen/Helen GRAY b. abt 1861 where ? d. 1886 Bonhill, Dunbarton Aged 25

Ellen was the daughter of John GRAY a dye work labourer and Jane SLOAN.

Marriage: 30 Dec 1881 at 15 Westercraigs, Dennistoun, Lanark

I don't know if this is the same Ellen or just coincidence. This is the rest of the family - mother and younger siblings in 1881:

Too many of them to be sure but here is Ellen's baptism with her siblings and the parents are John and Helen not Jane. Checked her death and her brother agrees his mum was Helen as he was informant.

Well I wonder where the Jane SLOAN came from. Several things don't add up.

I've started a new list of records to look up on SP next time I get some credits.

Hello Barbara,

I've seen another ref for a GRAY marriage at 15 Westercraigs on 31 Dec 1889 - a James Currie GRAY and a there is a son John Scott GRAY b. 1892. Can't find in FS.

It is not a church or such but looks like an ordinary dwelling.

The Ellen in Paisley in 1881 was born Glasgow. James born Paisley was in Glasgow in 1881. Perhaps it is coincidence and not the same Ellen. The Jane SLOAN bit had to come from somewhere.
