James Barry Divorced?

Hi

I am trying to trace my Paternal Grandfather with no luck. His name was James Barry and rumour is that he was an American Soldier here in England and he married my Grandma Joan Bellamy in 1942, a year before she gave birth to my father in 1943.
My grandma then went on to marry another man in 1943 after being with him from approx 1945 onwards but there is no information as to where James Barry went.
I have since obtained my grandmas wedding certificate to her second husband and it states that she was the “former wife of James Barry of no home and she obtained a divorce” - why does it say this? Why not just suimply divorced?
I also cannot find anything on James Barry, literally nothing; which could support him being in the American Army? Could he have died in the war?

The marriage certificate will give you James occupation and fathers name.

In an Anc. tree it say he was born 1920, could this be him?

That’s another odd thing as usually they do say I know but this particular one says nothing.
my fathers marriage certificate however states he was a Marine Mechanic which would support some sort of armed forces perhaps?

I don’t know how I would know as I know nothing about his parents or if he had siblings, which regiment he was in if any. There are a few James Barry’s or alternatives Berry who were born in that time or died in the war too, I just can’t tell unfortunately

The marriage certificate for James Barry should give you James occupation, eg regiment and fathers name.

That marriage cert is 1949 who did she marry in 1943 as stated.

I’m not sure that it says from no home on the marriage certificate. I agree it says from, but cannot make out what follows.

After looking at it over and over again. It’s looking like from St Louis 😁. Still think OP should get James Barry’s marriage certificate.

I think it says 'from whom she obtained a divorce'
