James Boniface BURNS info

Hi all, I have trawled through Scotlands People and various websites including
Ancestry's Scottish Census etc looking for a marriage of a James Boniface BURNS who apparently married a Margaret Kenna, most probably between 1900and 1918. It may have been in Govan, Glasgow? Found their son born there - another James Boniface BURNS born 1917 but no luck with his parents. I suspect they may have married Ireland? Could the KENNA surname be McKenna ? They may have had 3 daughters before James Boniface Burns (1917) - Could there be 3 generations of James Boniface BURNS? I did find one through Seamans Records in 1864 but not sure if I am on the right track. Can anyone help here please? Thanks in anticipation.

I've come across the name 'Boniface' before and it was to do with the West Indies area, the family eventually settled in the London area as I recall. I'll look through my notes later...

I'm really working in the dark here - until I can get some kind of certificate and if I can find the marriage, then hopefully I can work from that. the marriage is eluding me - I still have a gut feeling it could be Ireland. thanks Marjon

hi all, this family is still eluding me. Can anyone tell me how to go about getting a Scottish certificate? How much would it be in Aust$. Does Ancestry World Heritage show Scottish Information not on the usual site? If the 1917 JBB was born in the West Indies - how do I get a copy of the certificate? This is an index of the two births for that name in the whole of Scotland which may help you a little - I used one credit for that info which cost only a few pence.

2 1917 BURNS JAMES BONIFACE M POLLOKSHIELDS GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/18 0446 No

The 1917 one is not available on site as the man could have still been alive but the other can be bought for 5 credits. 30 credits cost £7, sorry don't know what that is in Aust dollars but someone else will I am sure. You have to register on the site and buy some credits but that birth will give you his parents and their occupation and where they were married as well as the birth details.

the 1917 one you can obtain but have to order and it used to be £10 but probably a bit more now.

Let me know if I can help further but if one is father of the other then a good chance he married in Scotland too? I will take a look for the marriage index for you.

Thank You, thank you - Barbara - all the information you posted has verified my research. I will certainly access site and obtain the certificates. The marriage certificate/birth certificates will help to put the puzzle together. In all of my research years - this has been the most frustrating. This family is not part of my tree (thank goodness) but a friends. She knows hardly anything about the family - looks like most of the men died early, leaving mothers/children to struggle. Lots of arguments in the family too - no information passed on. thanks once again to you - and to FHUK members who have given their time and effort in this search. It is much appreciated. :biggrin:
