Hello everyone,

Hoping someone might be able to help me try to make a connection on these two folks that I've been given a lead on.

James Brown & Eliz
Arrived in the port of Adelaide, South Australia on the ship Shackamaxon 22 Jan 1853 , with their girls Ann b. 1839 Driffield, Margaret b 1850 & Harriet b.1843 & a Maria Ann b. 1837 Driffield.

Eliz - died in port not log after the ship docked and was, as the story goes buried on the beech by James.

A family member has said that Eliz maiden name was "Draper" and that they were married 1839 at Charlton Kings, Gloucester England.

They could not tell me how they obtained her maiden name.
I have nothing giving her Name as "Draper".....

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know why that vessel is not on the other list.

I don't think it's the marriage to Draper from the birth reg of the children in the 1851 census.

Marriages Mar Qtr 1850
Brown James Driffield 23 82
Dolphin George Driffield 23 82
Mason Richard Driffield 23 82
Ridley Elizabeth Driffield 23 82
Shaw Susanna Driffield 23 82
Wright Ann Driffield 23 82

1850 marriage to James would mean that Margaret is his only daughter

What does the 23 82 mean ?

If those three are not the right birth reg then we have another Brown family in Driffield.

If it is Elizabeth Pickering then I can't find the marriage or her death 1843 - 1850. This one was aged 6

Deaths Mar Qtr 1848
Brown Elizabeth Driffield 23 31

Not all marriages are on FamilySearch. They even seem to have fewer now than some years ago.

It it is not Elizabeth then there are 9 possible deaths in Driffield 1843 -1850.

Where is Maria in 1851?

That's the only Maria Ann birth reg I can find but it does not seem to fit. So it fits somehow or there is no birth reg for her.

James Brown
Event Type Census
Event Date 1841
Event Place Driffield, Great, Yorkshire,Yorkshire East Riding
Residence Note Promise Square
Birthplace Yorkshire
Registration District Driffield Union
Parish Driffield, Great
County Yorkshire,Yorkshire East Riding
Page Number 12
Registration Number HO107
Piece/Folio 1217/32
James Brown M 25 Yorkshire
Eliza Brown F 24 Yorkshire
Ann Brown F 1 Yorkshire

Again, where is Maria ? One birth reg for a Maria Ann but not the right one.

24 in 1841 and 30 in 1847 would fit for death of Eliza. But I can't find a marriage to an Eliza Pickering.

The baptism looks right for Maria Ann but there seems to be no birth reg. Also where is she in 1841 and 1851?

The death for Eliza looks right.

Marriage to Pickering not on FS or FreeREG.
