James Carr and Catherine McGuiggs

Hi there. I am having some troubles getting further back than my great grandparents. James Carr was born around 1882 in Felling, Durham - I got this info from a 1908 British Army document, titled 'Army Reserve (Special Reservists) Attestation'. This document says his wife is Catherine McGuiggs, but doesn't give her birth date or place. It says they married on 26th October 1902 at St Patrick's in Felling. I have searched for this marriage record on ancestry and familysearch.org, but I can't find record of it. Wonder if anyone can help.

The army document also records James' various stints of service during the war up until 1915 where it seems he is discharged because of injury or disability caused through service. His rank was 'Private' and regimental number 5940. Not sure of his death date.

James and Catherine had two children: Catherine Elizabeth Carr, born around 1906 in 'Heroth' (don't know where that is...?) and James Barnard Carr, born about 1903 in Longbenton.

If anyone could give me any info on James or Catherine, their marriage; and particularly their parents, or Catherine's birth details - I would be so grateful.

This could be correct. On his daughter's (Catherine E Carr) marriage in 1923 certificate, James' job was listed as a coal miner. He was listed as deceased at that time.

Thanks so much guys. Why do you think the dates are incorrect on the Army form? Could it be possible it is a different James on that form? I seem to recall my family saying he served in the war, and this wife may have died prematurely.

The ages and pob in 1911 fit the RD for the birth reg so can't explain the dates in army record.

'Heroth' would be Heworth in Co Durham.

Felling wasn't a parish until 1974.
