Hello,

I looked at the witnesses for the 1812 marriage of Henry BENSLEY and found a Charlotte who could sign her name. The others made their mark. On Henry's 2nd marriage in 1834 there was a Charlotte SMALLS who again signed her name. So this time 2 + 2 = 4. Somehow I have to prove she is Henry's sister and that their parents are a Henry BENSLEY & Mary FISHER.

James SMALLS & Charlotte BENSLEY
Marriage: 26 Dec 1824 Fransham, Norfolk

Date also 5 Dec 1824 Welborne, Norfolk so looks like Banns. I can't find a baptism for James but there are baptisms with that family name in Welborne.

Deaths Dec 1864
Smalls James Mitford 4b 213

Deaths Dec 1872
SMALLS Charlotte 76 Mitford 4b 197

I'd like a look up for Charlotte 1841 through to 1871 please.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Barbara,

Thank you very much.

Just what my tree needed but totally predictable - another Wesleyan preacher. :2fun:

Place of birth for Charlotte is a bit of a surprise.

I'll have to compare Wymondham and place of marriage and Fransham and Welborne on the map.

And try to connect Charlotte to Henry. I'm obviously missing lots of children considering the date of the marriage 1777 and the rough birth we have for Charlotte. I'm not that interested in the other siblings.

I'm actually trying to prove that Henry & Mary FISHER are the parents of a Henry BENSLEY said to have been baptised on 22 Mar 1790 at Gressenhall. I can't find a source. His line ended up in Australia with lots of clergymen in their descendants.

Regards,

Dave

Gressenhall is not that close to Wymondham.

Gressenhall - NNW of Dereham
Little & Great Fransham W of Dereham
Elsing NE of Dereham
Welborne SE of Dereham
Wymondham SE of Dereham

No mother's name on his death certificate:

BENSLEY Henry 62 'John Gray' 1852 2136, 2463

Widower Farm servant Gravenhaul [Gressenhall] Co Norfolk Wesleyan Neither

No age at death but 62 in 1852.

Death # 3982/1868 BENSLEY HENRY - HENRY DIED GOULBURN GOULBURN

Perhaps the researcher took baptism place off shipping record. ?? But, then where did 22 Mar 1790 come from?

But if both Henry and Charlotte ended up in Fransham then there isn't a problem or are you not sure either of them belong to the Henry B and Mary Fisher.

Might have to have a wee look on the map too. Too far for them to travel to the nearest Wesleyan church?

Hello Barbara,

The places are all about the same distance away in a circle of Dereham. I have no idea yet where Wesleyan chapels in that area are located.

All I have 'connecting' Charlotte to Henry is that she is a witness, before and after her marriage, to Henry's two.

I am for the moment assuming she is a sister. I have no source to confirm the baptism date, place or parents for Henry.
