James Currains ?

I am a French citizen looking for my supposedly Welsh great-great-grandfather born around 1842.

Here is the story : My French great-great grand mother Rose Joséphine (or sometimes only Joséphine) met a British man (probably Welsh) and according to the family legend, they got married in Scotland. She got pregnant and they broke up.

She then went back to Paris in 1870 to give birth to my great-grandfather on March 10th and gave him the name "James Ernest Currains". She declared that his father was "James Currains", aged 28 by this time.

My problem is that this surname Currains does not seem to be a real surname. Maybe she mispelled it when declaring the child.

In 1898, James Ernest Currains officially took the surname of his mother to be named James Ernest Jeannot as he probably never was recognized by his father.

James "Currains", courier, born around 1842
Rose Joséphine Jeannot, born around 1845

James Ernest "Currains", born on March 10th 1870.

Thanks for your help !

Florent Jeannot.
