I'm trying to find out about a James Dalton, who was at Trafalgar on HMS Mars. He was 12 years old at the time, and we know he was from Manchester. According to the IGI there are 2 alternative James', one christened 13JAN1793 (in Manchester), parents Thomas and Martha, and the other christened 25DEC1792, parents James and Hannah. Thomas and Martha were married in 1790, James and Hannah in 1789, both in Manchester. The elder James may have been christened 18DEC1768 in Oldham, parents James and Ann.

I can't find any info on the IGI or Lancs OPC or ancestry regarding Thomas or James' siblings, or Thomas' parents.

Does anyone have any clues where else I could look?

Thanks for that. I've got a pretty good idea of his early service in the RN (he joined HMS Mars on 22SEP1804 as a volunteer, from the Plymouth holding ship HMS Salvadore del Mundo, and was 12 in October 1805), there are just a few questions regarding his family that the Navy wasn't particularly interested in, but I am:) .
