From this lead James Degraw 1824 that we have talked about through
Mary Degraw. It was suggested James could be related. After researching James I found 5 other bro's + 1 sis. Their parents were James Degraw & Catherine ? b. 1806 U.S. I est James 1800 through Catherine.

I received this information from James 1800.

Parents were Benjamin de Graw b. 26 Sep 1767, Bergen New Jersey - d. 1829, Mendon, Monroe, New York, married to Jemima Jourions b. 1770 Mendon, N.Y., - d. 1841. They married 1795, Vermont. Their children were... 1. Timothy b. 11 Feb 1796, Vermont - d. 12 May 1866, 2. Moses
b. 1798 Vermont, *3. Mary b. 1800 Upper Canada, *4. John J b. 1802
Upper Canada, 5. Catherine b. 1804 Upper Canada, 6. Sarah b. 3 May 1805 New York - d. 23 Feb 1885, 7. Aaron b. 1807 Vermont - d. 1885,
8. Jemimab. 1809 New York, 9. Jacob b. 16 Jul 1811 Mendon, Monroe, New York - d. 5 Jan 1856 Lehi, Utah. UT, 10. Sophia b. 1813 New York,
11. Elizabeth b. 1816 Vermont.

If it's at all " POSSIBLE TO CONFIRM THIS IS MY MARY DEGRAW "

" IT WOULD BE A MIRACLE!!!!!!!!! "

From a contact I work with say's, Mary could be born 1819.

The mother Jemima Jourions Be of " French Ethnic... ? "

I thought this may be Jemima b. 1809, but a 2nd glance showed it was 1819, however, if she is one of the variants it is closer to home, as it were... Hamilton.

Jemima Degrow Laidman

Burial Place: Wentworth (Hamilton), Ontario, Can
Notes: JEMIMA, WIFE OF MARMADUKE LAIDMAN BORN 26. MAR. 1819. DIED 20. JAN. 1893. LAIDMAN

Eh Geoff; thanks a lot fro this reply!!!!!!!!!! " I REALLY DO BELIEVE WE ARE ONTO SOMETHING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!! " If the mother is French ethnic, this does not mean say as in Quebec, to be French Canadian, rather to be of French ethnic born in Canada, as this Mary & John J & Catherine. They are of " FRENCH ETHNIC BORN IN CANADA THUS FRENCH CANADIAN!!!!!! "

Geoff... this is a very large family on Mundia.com it goes back past 1700.
I just broke it down, to what made we are working on simpler!!!!!!!!!

Eh Geoff: I started reading your letter Poor Jacob!!!!!!! I thought mine was rough...

What else do you think Geoff? Being persecuted would be a good reason,
for the way they migrated!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think we have made any discovery at all, that this is my Mary?

Yeah, Jacob wasn't so lucky in his life, polio and his beliefs having quite an effect on his family also.

It's difficult to say, most of the records we have found suggest Mary was b. between 1821 - 1823. In the 1820 census there is one female under 10y (that's closest that can be worked out), Jacob's sister Mary is listed first in the story, for that reason I would think it unlikely she is yours. We also have to remember that Mary was listed as Methodist, not Mormon. It's unclear at the moment how their religions fit.

Having said that, the one constant so far, Jemima has a similar surname... though I have now found another tree that suggests, Benjamin Sr. may have married twice, 2nd wife being a Jemima [yes, again :D] Jerome, though I can't find anything to validate it, not only that, Jemima 1 didn't die until 1841, allegedly

There is a William Degraw b. 1766 (same place as Benjamin 1767) this could be his bro. He is living with a Kipp family in 1850 aged 84, this could be a married dau., or g/dau.

Quote:
Name: William Degraw
Age: 84
Birth Year: abt 1766

Eh Geoff: I am writing now with a problem I have, I think we got Benjamin De Graw from 2 different trees.

!. Benjamin De Graw b. * 20 Sep Schraalenberg, Piego, New Jersey - d. 5 Jan * 1856. Married to Jemima Jearns b. 1770 Mendon, Monroe, N.Y. - d. * 1841 New, Yorkshire, England. Only child listed Jacob De Graw 1811.
They married * 1795 Connecticut!!!!!

2. Benjamin De Graw b. * 26 Sep 1767 Schraalenberg, Bergen, N.J. - d.
* 1829 Mendon, Monroe, N.Y. Married to Jemima Jourions b. 1770 Mendon, Monroe, N.Y. - d. * 1841 ( unknown ). They married 1795 * Vermont.
Father of Ben is Cornelius b. 8 Jul 1742 Tappan, Rockland, N.Y. - d. 1790
of Haverstraw,, Orange, N.Y. Mother was Lea Demarest b. 28 Dec 1742
Schraalenberg, Bergen, N.J. - d. 1800 Bloomfield, Ontario, N. J. In all they had 11 children including Ben. 1. Rachel b. 26 Nov 1766 Tappan, N.Y. - d. 1776 N.Y., 2. Ben * 1767 - 1829, 3. ( F ) Annatje b. 27 Sep 1769 Bergen,
N. J., 4. Johannes b. 30 Aug 1771 Tappan, N. Y., 5. Margrietje b. 6 Oct 1774 Charlestown, Monroe, N.Y., 6. Casparus b. 26 Jul 1779 Bergen, N.J.,
7. ( F ) Mayjke b. 27 Jul 1781 Bergen, N.J., 8. Magdalena b. 27 Jul 1781
Bergen, N.J.. 9. Samuel b. 28 May 1783 Bergen, N.J., 10. Elizabeth b. 2
Mar 1787 Charelstown, Monroe, N.Y., 11. Maria b. 12 Aug 1789 Charlestown, Monroe, N.Y.

Geoff, why 2 different Ben's, diferent birth & death dates , different wives, different marriage dates & places?

Hi Jeff

Yeah, I tried to unravel that partly by looking for siblings of Benjamin (1767), hence William b. 1766, then trying to follow the line that way, then looking for Canadian links.

They appear to be such a large family and I fear we have gone astray a little.

I'll have another look...

I would say, I try not to use the trees for general use unless they can or I can validate what they say.

Geoff

Edit assuming you mean using trees from others and not your own :)

Hi Jeff

I've just been through what we have so far.

I'm not sure that the lead in post #1 is fruitful, we've been through most of that family and even what appears to be a second family and there are no real links...

What we have so far is; Mary married William Dodman in 1841, Mary was b. between 1821 - 1823, she is of French origin and Methodist.

I wonder if the contact at your work has anything we can work with re. a birth around 1819.

Geoff

Edit: The 1851 census gives her birth and place as abt. 1824 Cranbro, Oxford County and residing in Blenheim, Oxford County. In 1871 they are in Zone, Bothwell, Ontario.
