It may not be Paisley, Scotland but Ireland for Ferguson as well. I can't find anything yet re Rev James Ferguson's early years.

Standing left to right: Marion Outridge Ferguson (Mrs. G. A. Ferguson), G. A. Ferguson, J. A. J. Ferguson, Elizabeth K. Ferguson. Seated left to right: Mrs Dinsdale, Lucy Ferguson Irving (Mrs C. R. Irving), Mrs Jemima Ferguson and the child is Fergus A. Irving, son of Lucy Ferguson Irving. Marion Ferguson's father was the head teacher at the local school. Elizabeth K. Ferguson was the assistant to the Postmistress. Jemima Ferguson was Postmistress from 14 November 1883 at £25 per annum.
Thanks Geoff.

Several James Ferguson.
No James Ferguson 1875 on the list of Wills

Thanks Geoff.

I looked in 1841 census in Renfrew hoping the family could be found. A few families mostly ag labs.

Births in Renfrew 1833 - 1850 only that one in post #1 with those parents. None in Lanark.
