Hello Barbara,

Thanks for looking. I had no luck in 1851 with FreeCEN.

I think you probably have a different James born Mcduff. ?

Not many ways you can mess up JACK. :)

I'd expect to see him in Paisley or Glasgow 1851 and probably Glasgow in 1861.

According to a tree Alexander senior & Isabella in the 1841 census in post #1 both died in 1861.

I can't find deaths in 1861 to fit.

I have not found them yet in 1851.

It looks as though the 1841 census in post #6 is incorrect, wrong mother and Martha age 10y should be abt. 3y and should be b. in county..

Just realised it states Martha's parents are John and Elizabeth Reid, perhaps suggesting John Reid - I suppose Elizabeth could be Martha's mother and remarried another John (Reid). There is a John Morrison listed among the family members, Martha's brother?

Do the brackets around Reid indicate something?

Thanks Geoff.

I posted the 1841 census because it was the only one I could find and suggested mother's name might have also been Martha after naming pattern. Later I found another tree with parents as John and Elizabeth REID and realised it was not the right Martha.

Yes, the name as (REID) indicates maiden name.

From another tree:

elizabeth reid
-1868

Died: the old country

Don't think Australia is " the old country" :2fun:

Ok, old in geological terms.

Yeah, I found a few of trees, a couple grossly out, one having Elizabeth R as a convict, clearly she came out with the family..

Death 1897/C01919 Jack Martha - John Morrison - Elizabeth

Bit unusual it does not have a '-' after Elizabeth to indicate maiden name unknown. Qld. BMD list the maiden names when known.

Jack Martha 23 Nov 1897 63y Watsonville Pioneer

The Northern Miner (Charters Towers, Qld. : 1874 - 1954) - Saturday 5 March 1898 p.2
At the Supreme Court this morning (says Friday's "Townsville Star") on the application of Messrs Roberts, Leu and Barnett, probate in the will of Martha Jack, late of Watsonvilie, storekeeper, trading under the style or firm of Mrs J. G. Jack, was granted to John Cairns, of Cairns, auctioneer, and James Robertson Alison, of Herberton, bank manager. The estate was sworn at under £860.

No luck with censuses for any of them
No, I had tried with William previously and now with some known brothers tried again without success. We could look at another brother.

Hard to know if parents Alexander and Isabella died before 1851 or not.

Oh:

1868/C958 Morrison Elizabeth - - ** aged about 23

I would say Elizabeth nee REID died in Scotland and perhaps not 1868.
