I saw that James Hardy in the 1911 census, but ruled him out because he was single and not a widower. I agree with Julie, looks like a different person

Some discrepancy in age here Jas (James) Hardy should be 30? - Normal rounding down in those days?

Thanks Geoff, I have spent all day trying to find a death in Canada for James also for Mabel his daughter - so far no positive results on family Search.

I have posted on the 'Railway' forum re his employment with Canadian Pacific Railways.

Help please.

Mike.

That James is now retired in 1953, may suggest age is looking good... though his occ. in 1940 was a carman..

Mabel Hardy
OCCUPATION: Elltee Worker
YEAR: 1953

This could be him in 1935, the description at the top of the page mentions the railway, so he could still have a connection to them.. He is listed the bottom of the page on the left hand side, he is with Mrs J Hardy and Miss M Hardy.. I can't see this James after 1953.

Thanks Geoff,

It kooks as if James re-marries to Martha before 1940 and daughter Mabel still single living with the James household.

1953 James retired from the railway as a 'carman' (they refer railway carriages as cars) with daughter Mabel still single. Mabel must be 53 by then

Looks as if the James Hardy family in Canada die out sometime after 1953

There must be death certs for James and Mabel, how does one find these?

Mike.
