That must be an error in 1891, Edith's maiden name is Carlson not Walker, I wonder if the 'Helen' is a remarried 'Walker' and William's mother, not M-i-L

Carlson is a rare name in Scotland so to have two of them in my tree - one connected to McLuckie and one connected to Malcolm family (which is connected to McLuckie) makes me wonder what is going on.

This is the aunt:

Mary MALCOLM b. 27 Apr 1830 c. 30 May 1830 Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland
Porterfield MALCOLM & Agnes GILMOUR

Archibald Hunter ROBERTSON & Mary Lyle MALCOLM
Marriage 13 Jul 1855 Hutchesontown, Lanark

I have no idea how the niece Mary born abt 1863 Glasgow fits in. Is she a Malcolm or a Robertson?

Where is the marriage to Carl/Edward Carlson?

I can't find the marriage of William THOM to Edith.

I can find nothing for 1891 and this for 1881:

Name: Helen Thoms
Event Type: Census
Event Date: 1881
Gender: Female
Age: 43
Birthplace: Renfrewshire
Registration District: Gourock
County: Renfrewshire

I'm wondering if THOM/THOMS has turned into THOMAS.

This is interesting:

James Thom born in 1906. Parents were William Thom and Mary (Edith) Carlson. They were married in 1888 and lived in Tradeston, Scotland according to marriage certificate. Marriage certificate indicates that William's father was also James Thom and his mother was Helen Armstrong. William immigrated to USA around 1911 with Mary and James following in 1912. They moved to Canada and homesteaded in Alberta in 1914. William died in 1916. We have no birth records on any of these individuals and have not been able to find any records as of this time all dates and information we have are unverified.
...Jas Thom and he may have been born in 1908 not 1906. Mary and Jas apparently came over to Ellis Island, then to Chicago then immigrated with William to Alberta Canada. They apparently came over on the ship Caledonia in 1912.
