Hi everyone,
I have been busy searching my ancestors and have found quite a lot of information. Especially on the Walheims and Wests.

My mother would like information on the siblings of my Great grandparents,
James Herbert Jessop, born in 1880 - Huddlesfield to Arthur and Rachel Jessop (Whittard). Mum thinks he was one of eight boys, but I can't find records for this.
Gertrude Jessop (Booth), Huddlesfield to Joseph and Martha Booth (Crowther).
Possibly had 12 sisters and 2 brothers.
One sister Lilly.
One sister married a Rice, immigrated to Canada and had a son Chris.
One sister went to Boston Massachusist USA.
One sister married a Kay, has a son Jimmy who lived in Sri Lanka and then Melbourne 75 years ago.
One brother Joe.
I don't know where my mum found this information and it hasn't been confirmed.

I would really appreciate some help on this one.:)

Cheers Lyn

There is a Clara Jessop listed on the UK outbound passenger list. The departure date is Oct 1935, with her age listed as 60. Her address is listed as 47 Fartonn Green, Huddersfield, with the contracted destination of Boston. Does this sound like someone who might be from your family?

Thankyou very much for this information. I can see why I've hit brick walls, with names spelled wrong/different.
I will see how far I can get with this.

Did you find anything on the Booth side at all?

Thankyou again.

I will ring mum with this info right now - excitement plus!
:D

Clara probably belongs to a collateral line; her husband is Fred Jessop and she is in fact his second wife. He was born in Shepley about 1872 and arrived in Boston in 1901, according to his naturalization papers of Oct 4, 1917. In the 1910 census his wife was an Emma, and there is a marriage record in the UK index for Fred Jessop and Emma Threapleton. Emma died in 1913.

He applies for a passport in 1921 for himself and a son, George Alfred Jessop, document gives his father as George Henry Jessop, deceased. His reason is 'visiting relatives'. However, there is an entry in the UK marriage index for Fred Jessop and Clara Graham in 1921, taking place in Huddersfield, Yorkshire West Riding. 1930 census says Clara came to the US in 1921. They actually lived in Providence Rhode Island; she would have used the port of Boston and then traveled up to Providence.

If the Booth sister married before she came to the US it would be hard to find her. From 1900 to 1910 I only saw two single Booth women born in England in the Boston area; Frances and Annie, in 1930 there was a Rose Booth, single and born in England.

There actually were not many Jessops from England in the Boston area; in 1890 for instance, there were only two Jessops. John J. and Joseph H. They worked in the same store and boarded at the same place. John was born about 1857 so would be the previous generation to your great grandfather.

in 1901 James 43 is with wife Olive 33 and children Martha Ann 18, Harriet 16, Kate 7, Amy 4, Wright 2 and Lawrence 4m (plus Olive born 1908)

also in 1901

1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription

44, Lockwood Road, Lockwood, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England

Kerah Booth Head Widow Female 62 1839 - Dewsbury, Yorkshire, England

Florence Booth Daughter Single Female 17 1884 Worsted Spinner Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England

It gets a bit muddled - these are my thoughts,

Kerenhappuch Crowther married Joseph in 1857, Sarah (1871 census) and Martha (1891 census) are recording errors and should be Keren. Joseph died possibly 1889 which would make the children recorded on 1891 census his, i.e. Florry 5, Harriet 6, Martha 8, Gertrude 10 Lily 13, Emily 15 and James 33. BUT Martha Ann and Harriet are recorded as children of James on 1901 census. They are too young to be Olive's children, but on 1891 census James is recorded as a widower, so had he already had children. But then we have Florence who is younger than both Martha and Harriet being recorded as Keren's daughter

Perhaps you can shed more light, from your family knowledge. How sure are you that Gertrude's mother was Martha? was this from the 1901 census

First, Thankyou everyone for your replies. I think I will have to print all the info out to get my head around it.
Dave, you have helped me previously with the Kerenhappuch/Sarah/Martha Dilemma. Thankyou again for sorting me out.
I have Gertrude's birth certificate: born 26/2/1880 to Joseph Booth and Martha Booth formally Crowther.
I think my original post may have sent you up the wrong tree. Reading back over it, I should have clarified that the information I gave on siblings, were all on the Booth side. I don't have any information on any of the Jessops.

Thanks again for you help so far.
I really appreciate it.
