Interesting...

James Higgins
Spouse Name: Mary Court
Marriage Date: 1881
Marriage Place: New South Wales
Registration Place: Waterloo, New South Wales
Registration Year: 1889
Registration Number: 3234

If they married in 1881, that cannot be the correct arrival

Geoff

Edit: Unless they married whilst he was a mariner ?

Thanks Geoff.

NSW index only has 1889.

So a Mr & Mrs ARTHUR. I can't see a ARTHUR - HIGGINS marriage in NSW.

"... J. J. Arthur's residence ..."

J. J. Arthur holds the clue.

1904 James is a brother so we still need a female HIGGINS married to a J. J. ARTHUR.

Only 2 in Ryerson:

ARTHUR John James Death notice 27MAY1948 Death 89 Sydney Morning Herald 28MAY1948

ARTHUR John Joseph Death notice 24FEB1974 Death 17 late of Harden Sydney Morning Herald 26FEB1974

One ruled out by age.

I'm off to supermarket so back later.

Apparently Mary's father was back and forth between NSW and NZ, one of them has this in 1890

James Court
Year: 1890
Street Name: Botany Road
City: Botany
Page: 178
[Chelmsford Ave, Edge hill Rd.]

Interesting that there is a J Arthurs on the same road, see also the Sands' entry.

This looks good...

SMH - 22 April 1895
There is more.
Quote
THE FRIENDS of Messrs. ALFRED and EDWARD
COURT are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral
of their deceased beloved FATHER, James Court, which
will leave his late residence, Edgehill-road, Botany, on
TUESDAY AFTERNOON, at 3 o'clock, for the Botany
Cemetery. JOSEPH MEDCALF, Undertaker, Redfern.

THE FRIENDS of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. ARTHUR, Mr.
and Mrs. JAMES HIGGINS, and Mr. and Mrs. JOHN
McKENNEY are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral
of their deceased beloved FATHER, Mr. James Court,
which will leave his late residence, Edgehill-road, Botany,
on TUESDAY AFTERNOON, at 3 o'clock, for the Botany
Cemetery. JOSEFH MEDCALF, Undertaker, Redfern-
street, Redfern. End Quote

Confirms one or two names..

One of the quotes says he was an 'Alderman'

No idea. Working off the details found in a tree.

The Sydney Morning Herald - Wednesday 2 December 1908 p.8
IN MEMORIAM
HIGGINS.-In loving remembrance of my dear husband
and our dear fither, James Higgins who departed
this life December 1, 1904 Inserted by his loving
wife and children Mary Higgins.

At least we know the one who died in Dec 1904 was married to a Mary, but is it Mary COURT?

The OCR of the 1904 Funeral notices is impossible to read if I post it.

I can't find the ARTHUR connection.

Does that tree with the arrival say where James was born?

Marriage 7421/1890 MCKENNEY JOHN T - COURT SIDNEY - WATERLOO

I can't find a ARTHUR - HIGGINS/COURT marriage in NZ or NSW.

Ok, reading further down the 1904 Funeral notices, two more mention McKENNY and COURT.

So that's the right death for James and Mary nee COURT was still alive.

NSW Death 19843/1952 HIGGINS MARY - JAMES - SARAH - PETERSHAM

No age, she would have to be very old if that is her death:

HIGGINS Mary Death notice 13JUL1952 Death at Petersham Sydney Morning Herald 15JUL1952

The Sydney Morning Herald - Tuesday 15 July 1952 p.12
DEATHS
HIGGINS Mary.-July 13 1952, at a private hospital Petersham, beloved mother and mother-in-law of Jim and Kate ( of Petersham ) Edith and Newman Gandon (of Mosman) Harry and Kate (of Randwick).

Correct one.

Marriage 13961/1914 GANDON NEWMAN H J - HIGGINS EDITH F - SYDNEY
