Hello,

I'm looking for a marriage in 1870 for a James NAUGHTON in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, Ireland.

I have the births in Australia of two children with parents James NAUGHTON and Alice KILFEDDER and a death for a James NAUGHTON that says they married in Ireland yet Alice arrived unmarried with her sister according to the shipping record:

Unassisted Inward passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923 - Kilfeder
Age Date Vessel Fiche Page
Alice 23 Jan 1871 'Essex' 300 006
Rebecca 20
The 'Essex' sailed from Plymouth on 10 November 1870 arriving at Melbourne on 25 January 1871.

Alice Kilfedder, married 1870, Registration district Ballyshannon Vol. 12 Page 1.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Ozn,

Thank you very much.

I kept getting Error 101 today when I tried the site.

Well, it's the same volume and page number but not proof he married Alice.

How curious. Why is Alice on the shipping record under her maiden name?

I need to find the parish and the religion some how. I believe they also had a church wedding in some parish in Co Leitrim.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Haven't a clue where your pair married. But Ballyshannon is very close to the 'border' of Leitrim.
Tullaghan and Kinlough are the closest towns to Ballyshannon.

A little fact about Leitrim. The coast line is only about 3km long. Just thought you'd like to know that.:2fun:

Hello Steve,

Thanks. I'll save that bit of trivia for later use. :2fun:

I don't even know if that's my Alice. Of course they want you to spend 5 Euros and get a copy to find the parents are not even listed. Alice was born in Kinlough and both her parents died in Ballyshannon.

Regards,

Dave

Just had a thought, my wife is going up to Ballyshannon for the weekend at the end of April I think. I'll ask her to have a nose around there. Can't promise that she'll find anything though.

And another bit of info for ya. Name variation of Naughton is Knockton......pronounced the same here.;)

Ok, thanks. :)

I've seen Naughten but not the other in BMD here.

There are four James NAUGHTONs in Victoria between 1870 and 1920.
