If this is the right death then it's the only record found showing a middle name. Other census have born Hanworth mddx.

Deaths Sep Qtr 1901
Newbery Sarah Jane 82 Brentford 3a 57

Again I can't see a Probate record.

I can't prove the 1842 marriage is the right one.

Also, there should be at least one earlier marriage for James. The family were of Hampton Court. Unlikely to be the right James as the one below made his mark.

London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921
Name: James Newbery
Spouse Name: Sarah Wade
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 20 May 1821
Parish: St Marylebone

Barbara Debora b. 10 Sep 1845 c. 5 Dec 1845 Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey
James NEWBERY & Sarah ...
Batch: C015492

Kingston Upon Thames is in Surrey and Hampton (St. Mary) is across the river in Middx. Some of the census get that mixed up.

Thanks Emeltee.

I have nothing in my tree for James in 1841 so that's a possible.

I have lots of queries re this family and many of them will probably remain mysteries but this time around I hope we can solve some of them.

James is the uncle of the one who ended up in Australia so I'm not spending $10 on a .pdf of the 1842 marriage.

The marriage to Frances Stone looks promising seeing as the1841 Census had a 9 yr old Catherine Stone living with James, although I don't have a clue as to what the connection is.

Found nothing yet that helps re Catherine Stone.

Description Will of John Newbery, late Maltster and Corn and Coal Merchant of Hampton, Middlesex
Date 22 November 1832
Catalogue reference PROB 11/1808

John Newbery left the land and premises on the western end of the property on the north of the Green to his wife, Sarah. After her death, it was to be passed on to his two unmarried daughters, Mary and Barbara. The property on the east side, a “newly erected tenement…with the yard, garden, coach house, stables, outbuildings and offices”, he left to his daughter, Sarah Bachelor Swalling, and granddaughter, Mary Anne Kensett Slade.

Three other properties were given to his remaining three children. He left a Tenement and Malthouse across the river, at Kingston upon Thames in the county of Surrey, to his oldest son, Thomas Newington Newbery (the ancestor of Elizabeth).

John Newbery had built five cottages on land in the Hampton parish known as “Four Hills”; he left this land, with its “cottages, outbuildings, offices and yard gardens” to his son, James Newbery.
He left another Malthouse, outbuilding and yards “in the hamlet of Hampton Court” to his daughter, Deborah.

The will of John Newbery (signed on 12 October 1832) establishes that he was an exceptionally wealthy man for his time.

He was a widower, Dave.. details sent.

Geoff
Thanks Geoff.

I suspected that. It's also possible that was his third marriage. I'm fishing by trying to go through all the possible marriages eliminating all that show James signed by his mark as that would not be my James.

Sarah J is listed as married in 1881.

Has to be the same Malcolm M a com traveller born Ireland. So a new wife (can't see the marriage) Sarah E and a new family of 4 children.

A death for Sarah J/Jane McGregor (b. 1847) after 1901 ?

I'm finding this site very slow.
