In 1872 John Newell arrived at Brisbane in the 'Gauntlet' to join an elder brother in mining at Stanthorpe.
Death 23 Mar 1917/C0478 Newell James - James Newell - Margaret McDowell

Cairns Post (Qld.) - Tue 12 Jun 1917 p.4
IN MEMORIAM.
NEWELL.-In ever loving memory of my dearly beloved husband, James Newell, who died at his residence, "Listooder," Mabel St., Atherton, March 22nd, 1917.

I can't see a marriage in Qld. for James.

I presume James is the elder brother who arrived before 1872.

John NEWELL . Kilmore b. 30 Nov 1852 in The Hollows, Listooder; brother of James, Thomas, Eliza, Sarah & Mary Anne; attended Kilmore Presbyterian Church; emigrated in 1872 to Queensland, Australia & became wealthy.
Others say John was born 30 Nov 1848.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks Geoff.

Perhaps James married twice.

Thanks Val.

Well, what a surprise. My tree is so interconnected it would be impossible to draw it on one side of the paper. Would have to draw on the back and come through time warp holes. :D

Yep, the two/three trees I have found have varying ideas of PoB for both, in one for example john died 1876, yet had him and Martha in an 1881 Worcestershire census.

I highlighted the marriage and offspring in post #13 because there was no arrival listed, they may have been elsewhere, strange given their young ages...

Thanks Geoff.

A bit curious given their ages that neither father was recorded on the marriage.

Lots of deaths in SA for a Thomas Turner.

Death for a Sarah with a husband Thomas still living.

1881 114/298 TURNER Sarah Thomas TURNER (H) Adelaide

If I have the right one Sarah Turner arrived in SA in 1848.

The South Australian Advertiser (Adelaide, SA) - Mon 11 Jul 1881 p.4
DIED
TURNER.—On the 5th July, at Coromandel Valley, Sarah, the beloved wife of Thomas Turner, in her 85th year. Arrived in the colony in 1848. Rest in peace.

TURNER Thomas, Sarah (wife), Martha, Isaac, 2 ch (Joseph, Jane?) arrived in SA 1848-12-05 aboard Baboo from London 48-08-24 via Plymouth

Martha would have been abt 15. Those over 14 are not counted as 'children' although that actually are children of Thomas & Sarah.
