I guess the next move is to get a copy of this one:

3378/1890 SANDS JANE - ROBERT MAGGIE BRAIDWOOD

Jane ANDERSON born about 1817 - parents unknown - but birth can't be found in ScotlandsPeople nor in the fiche in Dunfermline Library.

I have a copy of the marriage certificate but it's a :D

09/03/1844 SANDS JAMES JANE ANDERSON/FR4858 M Dunfermline /FIFE 424/ 0170 0062

"James Sands Weaver Dunfermline and Jane Anderson willingly there gave in their names for proclamation in order to Marriage being regularly proclaimed and no objections made their Certificate to that effect was granted."

No NSW marriages of James SANDS and Jane...
Only one NSW birth from 1840-1900 of a matching Jane:

# 31211/1885 RUSSELL Jane Thompson Robert Maggie PATRICKS PLAIN

and she married Colin MacKENZIE in 1905.

Regards,

Dave

Hello,

The age at death fits, the married about 60 years before fits, the time in NSW is not that much out, the Presbyterian bit fits, but the born in Glasgow is way out.

It's not proof I have the right one.

I'll have to hope the next one has name of spouse to tie them together.

Hello,

I now have a transcription of this death certificate:

Death Reg# 3378/1890 SANDS JANE ROBERT MAGGIE BRAIDWOOD

Jane SANDS
Date of Death: 20 Sep 1890 Braidwood, NSW
Occupation: - Age: 70
Place of Birth: Scotland - 40 years in Colonies
Father: Robert ANDERSON - Innkeeper
Mother: Maggie (Surname not stated)
Place of Marriage: Scotland
Age at Marriage: 25
Name of Spouse: James SANDS
Children: No Issue
Informant: James SANDS, Husband, Braidwood
Cause of Death: Senile Decay - 6 weeks
Medical Attendant: Dr FLORANCE 20 Sep 1890
Date of Burial: 22 Sep 1890 Braidwood
Minister: Rev J S DOBSON (Religion not stated)
Undertaker: R McDONALD
Witnesses: C O'LOUGHLIN, Alexr McRAE
Ref#: 1890/3378

The information I have in my tree is as follows:

James SANDS married Jane ANDERSON on 9 Mar 1844 in Dunfermline, Fife:

09/03/1844 SANDS JAMES JANE ANDERSON/FR4858 M Dunfermline /FIFE 424/ 0170 0062
A copy tells me very little:
"James Sands Weaver Dunfermline and Jane Anderson willingly there gave in their names for proclamation in order to Marriage being regularly proclaimed and no objections made their Certificate to that effect was granted."

They arrived in NSW in 1849:

Assisted immigrants arriving in Sydney & Newcastle, 1844-59
Surname Firstname Events Age Remarks Vessel Year Reel
SANDS James 33 and wife DIANA 1849 2135, 2459
SANDS Jane 32 and husband DIANA 1849 2135, 2459

So, died in 1890 and 40 years in NSW is a close match.
Age 70 in 1890 and age 25 in 1844 also a close match.
The one piece of information that may help us is that her father was an Innkeeper. I cannot find the birth of a Jane ANDERSON with father Robert and mother Maggie/Margaret in ScotlandsPeople. I have considered that Jane might be Janet and that 'Maggie' might be totally wrong which gives these two in Fife:

No Date Surname Forename Parent Names/Frame No. *** Parish City/County GROS Data Image Extract
1 01/03/1815 ANDERSON JANET ROBERT ANDERSON/JANET HOG FR2888 F Dunfermline /FIFE 424/ 0090 0378
2 08/11/1818 ANDERSON JANET ROBERT ANDERSON/JANET YOUNG F Aberdour (Fife) /FIFE 401/ 0020 0268

Of course she may not have been born abt 1819 in Fife.

James has two younger brothers, John and Adam and they married ANDERSON sisters (parents James & Elisabeth) who were born in Abercorn, W Lothian.

James and John and Adam were living with their parents in Dunfermline in 1841:

1841 Scotland Census
Name: James Sands
Age: 25
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816
Gender: Male
Where born: Fife, Scotland
Civil Parish: Dunfermline
County: Fife
Address: West Side of Woodhead Street
Occupation: J Weaver L
Parish Number: 424
Neighbors:
Household Members:
Name Age
James Sands 50
Elizabeth Sands 50
James Sands 25
Elizabeth Sands 25
Jean Sands 20
John Sands 15
Adam Sands 10

The two NSW transcriptions cost me a total of $34 (Just one death certificate from Qld. would cost $33 plus postage).

I'm happy that the information contained on the two transcriptions has enabled me to say with confidence that James & Jane are the ones in my tree.

Regards,

Dave
