James Saunders - help placing movements

Hey,

I need a little help here from people who are more qualified than me to try piece a little puzzle together.

One of the ancestors that I am searching is James Saunders (Born 20/10/1843 in Bideford, Devon) whom I have found birth details, movements into an orphanage and details of when he left the same orphanage however there is a massive gap from 1858 until I find him again on the 1901 Census where he is living in Stafford without any wife listed but lodging at a house.

Is there any of doing any extra searching to see what happened in between, where is wife and who his wife was or anything else that can help me fill in the gap from leaving the orphanage in Bideford Devon in 25/06/1858 and arriving on the address below in 1901.

1861 lodging with a family in Bristol as an Apprentice Basket Maker

1871 living in Bedminster, Somerset with wife Elizabeth Ann born 1847 Bedminster and daughter Ada born 1871 Bedminster

1881 living in Worcester with wife Elizabeth, daughter Ada, sons James born 1872 and Henry born 1874

Can't find the family in 1891 but have found a possible marriage

Sep 1870 Bristol vol 6a p 132 James Saunders/ Elizabeth Ann Dance

The information is available on all three subscription sites, Ancestry, Findmypast and the Genealogist. It is also on the LDS familysearch site. All I did was enter James Saunders born 1843 +/-2yrs and Bideford.
