I have a James Tilstone who's birth year i do not know
He is the father of George Tilstone born 1804.
I have George's mother's name as Mary and the only Mary i can fit to the time line is MAry Grocott married 21 MAY 1804
But i also noticed a James Tilstone who married Anne Grocott 29 December 1829
Would this be the same JAmes who might have married his wife's sister or just a coincidence

This looks like a brother:

Thomas Tilstone
christening: 13 August 1815 WHITMORE,STAFFORD
father: James Tilstone
mother: Mary

Probably the right marriage in 1804 but needs something to confirm it.

Possibly not a second marriage for James but a different James. Again, I'd need something to support that claim.

Seems no researcher has found a death yet for James or Mary. Birth dates for both of them as 1780 with nothing to back that up. Not even a county listed in 5 different trees. Copy and copy and no sources.

Thanks Dave
The name Thomas does feature twice in my family
I could not find Whitmore on a modern map, is it possible that the name changed or would it be a parish name?
I did find a Whitfield near Tunstall, and i know that these Tilstone's Came from Wolstanton and Tunstall area.

I have also noticed that the Tistone's dont seem to be well researched, i'm battling to get a little information on them especially further back

If the above theory is correct it would fit with this burial:
BI
9 Feb 1826
Mary TILSTONE
Age 43
Whitmore, St Mary & All Saints

It gives Mary a DOB of abt. 1883

Thanks Dave This is a great help

That is the one, so far i could only find the one sibling named Thomas who Dave pointed out to me.

If the above theory is correct it would fit with this burial:
BI
9 Feb 1826
Mary TILSTONE
Age 43
Whitmore, St Mary & All Saints

It gives Mary a DOB of abt. 1883

Geoff
You meant 1783 right?
I found both Mary and James's births to be around 1780 (as pointed out by Dave) so 1783 looks right to me

The 1829 marriage shows James was a widower and Ann a spinster..

County Staffordshire
Place Burslem
Church St John the Baptist
Marriage Date 29 Dec 1829
Groom Forename James
Groom Surname TILSTON
Groom Parish Burslem
Groom Condition Widower
Groom Occupation Labourer
Bride Forename Anne
Bride Surname GROCOTT

Bride Condition Spinster

Witness Two Forename Bagnall
Witness Two Surname BEECH

I think this information is spot on, (based on a bit of assumption) but tell me what you think:
George (1804) was married to Mary Robinson at St John in Burslem on 3 May 1829
His son James (born 1830) was also christened at St John
This to me says they were family living in the same region at the same time and William Robinson was quite likely Mary Robinson's father

This burial may be helpful at some later stage...

11 Aug 1835
Mary TILSTONE
Age 24
Whitmore, St Mary & All Saints

Geoff
Thank you i will make a note of this.

Also, with the details available from the marriage showing condition as widower it is possible that James married Mary's sister.
