I'm even wondering if that is a transcription error with Anderson in the middle of the Yates.

Neither seem to fit so it's likely Jane's father Robert didn't make it to 1841. Even if Margaret was 34 and age rounded down to 30 neither seem to fit for Jane born abt 1819.

Hi Dave,

The Torryburn family Jane Anderson look the nearest to me so I had a look at them briefly. William Yates is in the 1851 census at Carnock, Fife.

William Yates
Age: 40
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1811
Relationship: Head
Spouse's Name: Jean Yates
Gender: Male
Where born: Cubross, Perthsh
Parish Number: 414
Civil parish: Carnock
Town: Forth Iron Works
County: Fife
Address: 82 Store Row
Occupation: Engine Man Iror
ED: 1C
Page: 32 (click to see others on page)
Household schedule number: 128
Line: 15
Roll: CSSCT1851_85
Household Members: Name Age
William Yates 40
Jean Yates 55
Janet Yates 22
Cathrine Yates 19
Mary Yates 17
Jean M Farlane 4 Niece

His wife was Janet Fyfe and he married her in 1826 at Torryburn. She came from Clackmannan. And the children with her in the 1841 are theirs. Doesn't explain Jane Anderson living with them but perhaps she was a relation of either William or Janet?

Hello Barbara,

Thanks for looking.

James SANDS had two younger brothers who married Anderson sisters from Abercorn. The only unaccounted for sister in that Anderson family if three sisters married 3 brothers is an Elizabeth born 29 Nov 1819. But, anyway the parents are Alexander and Janet and Jane's death certificate says Robert & Maggie.

Yes, I have looked for a Jane/Jean/Janet birth to Robert & Maggie/Margaret without success on SP.

I'm going to check how close those addresses are to Woodhead street.

I can't find Reform or Woodhead streets in Dunfermline.

I'll also try to find parents for George Anderson. Too many possible.

I've looked for other ANDERSON birth with parents Robert & Margaret. Only two in Fife 1810 - 1830.

The shipping record lists James, a mason, as being from Torreburn, Fifeshire and Jane from Dunfermline.

I wonder if Catharine ANDERSON born 27 Jan 1822 Dunfermline can be traced.

So back to:

I wonder if Catharine ANDERSON born 1822 Dunfermline - parents Robert & Margaret - can be traced.

Deaths for 4 x Catharine in Fife (Arngask, Cupar, St Andrews, St Leonards) between 27 Jan 1822 and 6 Jun 1841 but none in or near Dunfermline. And none with name as Catherine.

Zero deaths in Fife after 1855 for a married Catharine ANDERSON born 1822 +/- 5 years

One death in Fife after 1855 for a married Catherine ANDERSON born 1822 +/- 1 year - 1895 in Dysart. Married name is MELVILLE and the marriage was in Dysart in Apr 1844 and has to be this one and not the one I'm chasing:

And two in Dunfermline with Catharine as a spelling. You have already crossed out the first so perhaps the second?

Hello Barbara,

Thank you very much. ;)

I have eliminated the HUTTON and MELVILLE and the KAYS one is on the census board, but looks like no hope.

I am assuming of course that Jane had a sister Catharine.

At least the 1822 birth in Dunfermline is a possibility. Even if I find a death that fits, I'm still assuming it will say her father Robert was an innkeeper.

Probably asking for too much. I should just settle for more chocolates. :2fun:

Regards,

Dave

I will have a look at the deaths outside Fife for those born 1822 +/- 3 years.

There are 71 x Catherine nee ANDERSON with a death after 1855. :)

I have also assumed the 'Dunfermline' on the shipping record is pob not just where Jane had been living in the 5 years between the marriage and the departure.

Death 1864 Catharine GULLAN (ANDERSON) St Nicholas Aberdeen Age 45

The record has the name as GULLAN but this is probably the marriage:
