In 1841 Jane's mother is listed as not born in Lancs, but I don't know where she was born.

In 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 Jane is listed as born Bolton.

I think Jane's mother died in 1845.

I could not see a marriage for an Elizabeth Clark to a Brockbank to complete the picture.

Well surprise surprise, I have a William Brockbank marrying an Elizabeth Clarkson 1831 in Aldingham Lancashire according to Boyds marriages. This is probably the Elizabeth I found in the 1851 census.
Is it possible William married two Elizabeths?? I cannot see the original because it doesn't appear on Find My Past, but it hasn't been transcribed if William is a widower or not.
It may not be your William, but you can see the confusion.

I would say so, I can't see an 11 year old [Ellen] and possibly others put into lodgings with mother still alive without good reason.

In 1841 he was 50y, if rounded down that would give a probable DOB 1787-1791, if he was 56y in 1851 a DOB of about 1796 +/-
