Im not finding anything on Jane

Did find these bit "n" pieces tho not sure if they will be of any help. Just thought the FMP one might mention his marriage status.

Index on FMP
Galt Nevin — — 1859 Wills & probate Queensland, Australia

then

The Courier (Brisbane, Qld. : 1861 - 1864)
Wednesday 15 October 1862

etc etc In the matter of the Goods of NEVIN GALT, late of Roc7champton, deceased, intestate. Mr. BRAMSTON moved, upon affidavit, that the sum of £5 Is. lid., belonging to the intestate, and in the possession of the Curator of Intestate Estates, should be granted to Mary Galt, the only daughter of Nevin Galt. Order made accordingly

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/4608586

Do we have anything on the daughter such as a marriage etc.

I still cant find Jane  Using Jane and Jean and nothing.

Can we be sure she didnt die on the ship on the way over?

Just the way Mary's marriage notice is written it sounds like she was off the scene then. Maybe William Pawley and his wife raised her

Thanks gibbo.

I agree from the way the marriage notice is written that Jane probably died before 1870.

This is from the 2nd film which is the 'Inspection upon Arrival' where the passengers health is assessed and they are asked if they had any complaints re the voyage.

Niven 30 Gardener Abbey Renfrewshire Thomas & Margt. both dead CofS Read & write None
Jane 28 - Kilmarnock Ayrshire William & Mary Pawley mother living in Glasgow father dead CofS Read & write A brother Wm Pawley in Brisbane
Mary 6 Paisley Niven & Jane on board

Nothing to indicate Jane died on the voyage.

Dunno gibbo.

I'll have another look in TROVE.

I'm currently looking for the death in Qld. of a William GIBSON.

I've worked out it had to be before 2 January 1940.
