Jane(t)/Jennet Llewellyn, widow(?), possibly living Merthyr Tydfil area, Glamorgan. Born Brecknock circa 1815. Also 1851, if possible. Might then be with husband (Jenkin?)

I believe that in 1881 she is recorded as Jane Rees, widow, aged 66, living with whom I calculate to be her daughter, Mary, and son-in-law Richard, Davies in Merthyr.

There is an entry in Merthyr Tydfil marriage register for Dec 1862 which could be relevant. The only two names that appear are Jane Llewellyn and John Rees. I want to see if census records support my theory before investing in a certificate.

Not finding anything which is just right. There is a Janet Llewellyn the right age living with a Thomas and a Janet Jenkins also living with a Thomas?

Thanks for your time and effort. Sorry, both for you and me, that you drew a blank.

When Richard Davies married Mary Llewelyn in 1856, the father of the bride was given as Jenkin Llewelyn (deceased). The birth certificate of Margaret Llewelyn in 1839, who I take to be Mary's sister, gives her parents as Jenkin and Janet (formerly David) Llewelyn. There is a marriage between Jenkin Llewellyn and Jennet Davis/d in 1834 - Mary was born in 1835. All dates and locations "fit". I was hoping that if I could find evidence of the marriage between the widow Janet Llewllyn and a Mr Rees, the circle would be complete and I would be able to go back a further generation.

Time for a re-think.

Now I understand what you are looking for a bit better

Is this your family in 1851? No Mary but perhaps she was working away, have you found her pre marriage?

It is now some time since I initially researched this family and cannot remember if I found them in 1851. If I did, I have no record of it. I do have a very speculative note that Jenkin may have died in 1849 but, in my inexperience, failed to make a note of my source.

I am now considering the possibility that Jane(t) Llewelyn married for a second time, to a Mr Rees. From Mary's marriage certificate it appears that her first husband,Jenkin, died before 1856. There is a Jane Llewelyn/John Rees marriage in 1862 and Jane Llewellyn/ William Rees marriage in 1873 - both in Merthyr Tydfil and both the only couple on the page.

As you've shown such interest, thought you would like to know that I have just found a Jane Rees b 1814 Brecknockshire living with husband John in 1871. Looks as if John's first wife, Catherine, may have died Mar Q 1862 so Jane/John marriage in 1862 looks favourite.

Good news, pleased it is working out for you. I am not hot on Welsh ancestry as my geography isn't too good and the names are so similar. Very like doing my husband's Hendersons and Sutherlands up in Caithness.
