Possibly Andrew wrongly transcribed in 1861; name or mother change from 1851..

RD: Cramond
Civil Parish: Cramond
County: Midlothian
Address: N Lennie
Occupation: Farm Servant
ED: 3; Page: 10; Line: 1; Roll: CSSCT1861_122

Andrew Scoles 44 [b. Freeland, Kinross. Farm Servant]
Sarah Scoles 30 [Wife, b. E Calder]
Isabella Scoles 20 [b. Peebles]
Andrew Scoller 17 [do]
Jane Scoller 15 [do]
Agnes Scoller 10 [b. Edin]
Easter Scoller 8 [b. Mid Calder]
Sarah Scoller 4 [do]
Mary Scoller 1 [do]
Fanny Scoller 2 [do, g'dau]
Jane Heriot 1 [do, g'dau]
Vilot Forsyth 58 [Lodger]

1851 (full census)
Civil Parish: Edinburgh Old Church
County: Midlothian
Address: So Foules Close 42 High Street
Occupation: Scholar
ED: 13; Page: 5; Line: 12; Roll: CSSCT1851_178

Andrew Scobbie 42
Mary Scobbie 22 [Wife, b. Edin]
Joanna Scobbie 12 [dau, b. Peebles]
Isabella Scobbie 10
Andrew Scobbie 7
Jean Scobbie 5
Violet Forsyth 48 [Lodger]

Interesting that it is the lodger that helps tie it together; Andrew Sr's age is almost the same in both censuses, for example..

In 1881 Janet is described as a coal miner's wife, yet on the passenger list in 1882 Andrew is a gardener. In previous censuses he had been associated with working on the land.

That would be quite normal Geoff as when he lived at Eddleston he wasn't near the mines and would work on the land but he had moved to Liberton in 1881 and was near the coal mines. He would be moving to get work of any kind. You get the same with the ag labs moving into towns to work in the mills and maybe found it wasn't for them and moved back out into the country.
