I have been browsing my home town parish records for more rellies and came across something interesting.
The earliest record I have found for the surname of Jarvis, was in 1705. But the name was then spealt Jarvish.
This is the order the name progresses:-

1705-1706 - Jarvish
1706-1707 - Jarvis
1709-1734 - Jarvise
1737-1749 - Jarvice
1753-1871 - Jarvis

I would guess the spelling changed due to the ministers interpretation of the name.
So when looking for rellies, it's worthwhile looking at the variations of the name.
And on top of the mistranscriptions in the census, no wonder this family research is a doddle. :confused:  :)
