Tingha Advocate & North-Western Journal Fri 30 Aug 1929
MR. H. STORTENBEKER.
Deep regret was expressed by all when it became known that one of Tingha's oldest and most respected residents, in the person of Mr. Henry Stortenbeker, had passed away at his residence in Diamond-street on Sunday last. The deceased, who was 81 years of age, was born in Denmark, and came to Tingha district 53 years ago. He followed the occupation of wheelwright and undertaker up till eight years ago, when, owing to failing health, he disposed of his busness. Since then his health had been very indifferent, and for the past three weeks he had been confined to his bed. The cause of death was senile decay. A wife and seven children are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father, and for these the deepest sympathy is felt. The children are: Mr. H. Stortenbeker (Townsville, Q.), Mr. G. Stortenbeker (Cessnock), Mrs. Carlon (Wyndham, W.A.), Mrs. McLennan (Cessnock), Mrs. J. E. Phelan (Guyra), Messrs D. J. and N. Stortenbeker (Tingha). The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Monday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Catholic portion of Tingha Cemetery. Rev. Father O'Brien conducting the burial service. Mr. E. C. Walker carried out the funeral arrangements.
