NSW Marriage 2408/1873 KELLY JOHN - CARRIGAN ANNIE - GOULBURN

NSW birth index
V18531659 70/1853 CORRIGAN ANNE father EDWARD mother MARY

Goulburn Herald (NSW : 1881 - 1907)
Saturday 8 November 1884
Obituary - Mrs Mary Carrigan, relict of the late Mr Edward Carrigan, died at Marulan on Thursday morning last. Her remains were brought to Goulburn by yesterday afternoon's train, and interred in the Church of England cemetery. The deceased was widely known in the district, and in the old coaching days her pleasant countenance and obliging manners as hostess of the White Horse Inn at Wingello contributed with the good management of the house to make that a favourite stopping-place for travellers. She was twice married. Her first husband, Mr Brown, was accidentally shot, and her second, Mr Carrigan, had his life shortened by a fall from his horse. After the closing of the White Horse Inn through the opening of the railway, Mr and Mrs Carrigan removed to an inn at old Marulan, and subsequent to her husband's death Mrs Carrigan opened the Royal Hotel opposite the Marulan railway-station, which she carried on until a few months ago, when, in consequeonce of her failing health, she transferred the license to her son-in-law, Mr John Kelly. Mrs Carrigan enjoyed the respect of all who knew her, and her death snaps another link between past and present in this district.

Thanks gibbo. Great work. :)

Thanks Geoff.

We don't know Mary's maiden name or have her marriage to BROWN and so can't sort out the two 1884 deaths. Being November I would have chosen the reg with the larger # but Picton is closer to Marulan.

Huge number of marriages for a Mary to a BROWN before 1852. We need Mr. Brown's first name. Probably an inquest if he was shot. Deaths for 77x Brown 1850-1852.

Deaths for both John & Annie registered in Petersham. Need early E/R.

Obituary for John Kelly's mother.

Bowral Free Press and Berrima District Intelligencer (NSW : 1884 - 1901)
Wednesday 11 November 1891
DEATH OF MRS. ANN KELLY:
There isa true saying that trouble seldom comes singly. About three weeks ago we announced that Mr. P. McGatilley, of this office, had followed to the grave at Goulburn the remains of his wife's sister ; and. it now becomes our painful lot to chronicle; another death in his family—that of Mrs,.Ann Kelly, of Clifford-street, Goulburn, aged 62 years, which 0cc.1rred.at n.30 on Sunday night last, November 8th. Fearing that her end was rapidly approaching; a telegram was dispatched to Mr. McGaulley on Sunday morning through the railway department, but it was not till late: that night that the telegram reached its destination. Both Mr. and Mrs. McGaulley at once left for Goulburn, but their mother had already been dead three hours when they arrived. We are assured that the end - was peace. Mrs...Kelly was amongst those who were early attacked by influenza, and the case wasat first so serious that her life was despaired of. She however rallied and every hope was entertained of her recovery,,but unfortunately she had a relapse and died as above stated. She was the? .widow of Mr. Garrett Kelly, formerly- aresident of the 'Bungonia district, who, died some fifteen years ago. Mrs. Kelly was a native of county Mayo, Ireland,,having come to this colony when ten years of age. Mrs. Kelly's eldest daughter

One of the trees has a fairly interesting story 'Mary Williams (1817 - 1884) and her husbands Thomas Brown and Edward Carrigan'

I'll send you both a copy, too large to post here [It will be exactly as copied, including spaces]...
