Hello,

John ARROL b. abt 1849 New Monkland, Lanark

Said to have married in 1867 and spouse Janet said to have died in 1868.

I'm wondering if status is shown for John as widower. He is back with family (or never left) in 1871:

1871
Name: James Arroll
Age: 48
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1823
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Jane
Gender: Male
Where born: Paisley, Renfrewshire
Registration Number: 644/1
Registration district: Central District
Civil Parish: Glasgow Inner High
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 176 Stirling's Road
Occupation: Mill Warper
ED: 72
Household schedule number: 98
Line: 10
Roll: CSSCT1871_124
Household Members:
Name Age
James Arroll 48 Mill Warper
Jane Arroll 45 <---- Jean
John Arroll 22 Mill worker
Elizabeth Arroll 17 Mill worker
Robert Arroll 16 Mill tenter
Janet Arroll 14 Mill worker <---- Jane
James Arroll 12 Mill worker
James Arroll 10 <---- Agnes
George Arroll 7
possible based on age but there could be others:

Death 1914 John ARROLL Govan, Lanark Age 64

Dave

Hello Barbara,

Thank you very much.

If it's the same John who remarried in Bridgeton in 1872 then his spouse died before 1881. One child that I know of:

name: James Arrol
gender: Male
baptism/christening date:
baptism/christening place:
birth date: 11 Aug 1872
birthplace: BRIDGETON,GLASGOW,LANARK,SCOTLAND
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: John Arrol
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Annie Taylor
mother's birthplace:
mother's age:
indexing project (batch) number: C11920-1
system origin: Scotland-ODM
source film number: 6035516
reference number:

At his first marriage John was listed as a warper.

Please see if you can find a John, widower, warper in Glasgow in 1881.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Not having much luck with John or his son James. Only James that is likely (in Bridgeton) is Mc Arrol and with his grandmother either Sarah or Catherine so doesn't look right. Anything else I can try?

Hello Barbara,

Thanks for looking.

I have no death for James b. 1872.

I don't know if this one is mine but age fits:

Death 1914 John ARROLL Govan, Lanark Age 64

So please see if you can find that one in 1901.

Regards,

Dave

I have to admit to getting a bit confused with all these Arrols:D

The one who died in Govan is likely this one who was a gardener?

John Arrol
Age: 49
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1852
Relationship: Head
Gender: Male
Where born: Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire
Registration number: 646A/1
Registration district: Plantation Burgh
Civil parish: Govan
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 10 Farm Rd
Occupation: Gardener Domestic
ED: 2
Household schedule number: 94
Line: 11
Roll: CSSCT1901_324
Household Members: Name Age
John Arrol 49

There are two John Arrols born in Helensburgh one with parents Robert and Mary who is living with them in 1901 and one with parents James and Janet who is with them in 51 and 61 and then disappears.

Hello Barbara,

Thanks. I'd say that rules out that death.

So we have nothing definite for John b. 1849 New Monkland the warper/mill worker after 1871 where he is back with family.

So I'd better have another look for a death.

This may of may not be the same John:

John ARROL & Annie TAYLOR
Marriage: 9 Feb 1872 Bridgeton, Glasgow, Lanark,

But that does not help because of this:

Death 1875 Annie ARROL (TAYLOR) , Lanark Age 24

Regards,

Dave
