Hi, hoping for some help. Looking for the ship John Bernard ROMBERG came to Australia on during 1836-1861. He married Priscilla FIRTH in QLD in 1864. I’m also trying to locate the ship Priscilla came on.

John was born in Germany & Priscilla was born in England.

Thanks.
Kate

Not sure if you know but it appears your Priscilla had a sister Matilda. It will need checking to confirm.

1904 C2144 Priscilla Romberg,, Joseph Firth,, Betsy Platt

1882 M1909 Matilda Firth,, Joseph Firth,, Betty Platt

M = Marine death—happened at sea and was then registered at the first port of call in Queensland. There may or may not be details of burial.

FIRTH Matilda aged 24 Ship Roma 1882 june [Matilida was a remittance passenger]

Kate do you have any death certs. for John and or Priscilla?
I know they can be expensive but if filled out correctly can hold a heap of information, parents names, place of birth, how long they have been in the country for etc.

Johns obit doesn't give anything up. Pretty much says he had been in the Towers for 23 years but nothing on where he was before then.

1895

ANOTHER old resident of Charters Towers, Mr John Romberg, passed away on Sunday afternoon. He came to this field about 23 years ago, and after following mining with indifferent success, g ot into the Day Dawn p.c. just before that famous mine struck it rich. When the mine was sold to British capitalists, Mr Romberg invested his share of the proceeds in town property, of which he held a great deal, including the Royal Hotel. For some time past Mr Romberg, who was over 70 years of age, had been very feeble, and an affection of the throat carried him off at last. Mr Romberg was of a very retired disposition, and took no part in public affairs. He leaves a widow and grown-up family.

Just checked the the Early Pioneers Index [up to 1859] no Priscilla Firth, immigrants would usually be included, but she may have been missed off for whatever reason.
