Sheffield?

I can find Priscilla and Matilda and family in 1851. I can't find either in 1861. Didn't expect to find Priscilla but expected to find Matilda.

So arrival abt 1856.

May or may not be of use, this is taken from the Qld. Archives re naturalisation [1879].

"ROMBERG John 4842 R 1879 841182SCT/CF36Z2286
ROMBERG Jorgan 4842 1879 882265SCT/CF14Z2205 [or John ROMBERG]"

So not sure if that is 2 people or one with a possible different first name.

Geoff

EDIT: If his name is Jorgan, he may have anglicised it to John. May have an impact on who we search for prior to the marriage.

Looks like the same person with 4842 and 4842 R - NSW BDM used to use the 'R' to indicate an altered record. They won't actually admit to that now.

First ref in Trove for 'Jorgan' is 1865 but not connected.

1882 M1909 Matilda Firth,, Joseph Firth,, Betty Platt

M = Marine death—happened at sea and was then registered at the first port of call in Queensland. There may or may not be details of burial.

FIRTH Matilda aged 24 Ship Roma 1882 june [Matilida was a remittance passenger]
If Priscilla had anything to do with Matilda been a remittance passenger would there be any record of it and if so any further into to help with Priscilla?

Unassisted Geoff.

Where is Matilda in 1861?

Searching with J and Jorgan no help in Trove prior to 1864. John ran a coach service from the Towers.

Priscilla not on the Unassisted to NSW Mariners list.

"Priscilla Firth"~0 no hits in Trove at all.

This was posted some years ago with the suggestion they met on the vessel. Don't know how likely that is. That message no longer exists.

I think that's the right one in 1861.

Prev Sys: IMM/247 = Immigration - it was one of the many immigration schemes

Immigration schemes
Search Land orders 1861–1874—Registers of land orders issued to immigrants on the completion of their obligations under the law at the time, as well as land orders issued to employers of immigrants
Search Land orders 1862–1878—Registers recording land orders issued to immigrants on the completion of their obligations under the law at the time; the head of the family, businesses and Shipping and Immigration Agents could act as nominators

So Priscilla received a land order and then sold it. She had completed her obligation by 1863 - NSW they were usually 12 months with an employer.

So 1862 ??
