Unassisted - employed by someone for probably 12 months - possibly arrived 1861 after census or 1862. Don't know how we find the vessel.

Thank you both. Just reading through this now.
I’ve found a marriage between Joseph FIRTH and a Mary SHALES in 1840. I have death of Betty FIRTH nee Platt as 1839. Do you think Joseph could’ve re-married?

We would need to check occupation for Joseph in 1841 census against the occupation listed in baptism of Priscilla and Matilda if images can be found.
It is a Mary not Betty/Elizabeth in 1841.

FIRTH, BETTY 36
GRO Reference: 1839 D Quarter in ASHTON AND OLDHAM Volume 20 Page 80
FIRTH, BETTY 1
GRO Reference: 1839 D Quarter in ASHTON AND OLDHAM Volume 20 Page 107

That 1840 marriage not on Lancs OPC.

Kate, maybe drop the QLD state archives a email and ask if there is any further information on the Land Orders records such as ship and date of arrival. Could be worth ordering a copy to check it out.

He would have been originally buried in the Pioneer Cemetery which closed in 1895 so probably one of the last to be buried there. The new cemetery on the Lynd highway opened in 1895. The burial records state exhumed from No 1 cem.

edited.. The one exhumed was a son to John and Priscilla.

Thanks Ellie.

Very interesting even though I don't have any that I know of in my tree who arrived in Qld. by that scheme.

Thanks for the offer Gibbo. I have photos of both Priscilla and John’s headstones already. I think my Dad took them on a trip one year.
