I have looked and found that John Spooner is in the 1891 census in Streatham but down as Octavius Spooner, a bricklayer, born in Sussex, Kirdford with wife Mary born in Nuneham, Oxfordshire.

I found Mary Maria West in 1861 in Nuneham, daughter of John and Hannah West.

A Octavius Spooner was born in 1845 in the Petworth district of Sussex.

Octavius and Mary had a daughter Ethel born in about 1884 who is with them in 1891 and 1901. It seems that he somehow knew himself as John in 1901.

Thanks Ben. I suppose Octavious was a bit of a mouthfull to say.:biggrin: Just had another look at the original 1901 census, it could be read as John O. Spooner, instead of transcribed John C. spooner.
