Can anyone find a birth for this chap please. But don't bust a gut over him. He's only a possible maybe.

I've looked in the GRO, and found nothing for a birth. I can't find a marriage either.

There is only one person surname Fanning born 18 Septenber 1912 on the 1939 Register and thats' Henrietta Fanning, a married woman, so she wasn't even born a Fanning!

No one called Fenning either and I even tried both names with an s on the end but nothing. Perhaps the Electoral Rolls may help.

He might not have been born in England/Wales. Theres a John Christopher Fanning born Dublin (not your chap as his birth is much ealier). Thought perhaps maybe there was a connection.

Can't even find a family called Fanning in Buckinghamshire in 1911 so I doubt if he's native to the place.

He was only a speculative chap. I was looking for a husband of an Ada Fanning, who dies 1994, aged 87, in the Wycombe District. Born, 9 Mar 1907.
In fact, I'm not sure she even married.

I think I may have found her.

1939 Register has an Ada Kennedy born 9 Mar 1907. The Kennedy has been crossed out and Fanning written above, only it has been transcribed as Tanning.

The one thing I can't find is a birth reg for Ada.

Just realised Ada is married in 1939 so Kennedy is not her maiden name.

The nearest I can find is an IDA Kennedy c1906, b,County Armagh, a boarder with a Thomas Swords in the Ireland 1911 census in Kings County,(Offally).

She is Church of Ireland, Thomas Swords, a labourer, Catholic.

The only birth I can see is ITA Kennedy, 1907, Limerick.

The problem is that the GRO refs only give the quarter and not the actual birth date so very difficult to pin her down. I've been through all the Parish Baptisms on fmp in case a birth date is given but none fit.

As for marriages between ?? Kennedy and Ada it could have been anywhere between 1923 when she was 16 and 1939 when she appears as Ada Kennedy. There are an awful lot of marriages which could be right, all over the country. Pity the 1939 Register didn't give pob as well as dob.

I think that having got this far she has become something of a lost cause, certainly an impossible one.

Just thought I give it a last go, and searching under Jack Fanning, I arrived at a surname for Ada Peat, who married a David James Kennedy 1905, Ashton u Lyne - 1974. d.1974 Manchester.

The tree owner has sent me Ada Peat/Kennedy marriage cert to Jack Fanning. Apparently she divorced David Kennedy.

It was a Catholic marriage, even though Ada & Jack were baptised as Anglicans.

Ada Kennedy is down as spinster, and Fathers name was Arthur Kennedy, but PEAT, was inserted on marriage cert.

Strange old world, isn't it.

Ages given on the 1942 marriage cert are 28 years old for both. That would be about 7 years out.
