John Cornes 75th foot

Can anyone help me trace a John Cornes, supposedly captain of the 75th regiment of foot but dead when his wife also died in 1871. Info from her death record. He had children Frederick Andrew and John Cornes born in the 1850s with his wife Isobel Halliburton but i have found no marriage nor can I find them on the 1861 census. The boys are staying with aunts in the 1871 and born Melrose. When Andrew was born (no mention of Frederick when born but Frederick A H on 1871) his father was "private gentleman" Saltersgate, Pickering. Perhaps they weren't married but would still like to trace this man if possible.

This could go on any forum really but trying the military one as that is one I always need help with:biggrin:
