Herr Christoff the tight rope performer who for many years both in Sydney and sister colonies as well as in India, The USA, China and other parts of the globe, died at the City Bank Hotel yesterday morning. It is said he left a lot of valuables in the shape of wathches and diamond rings, Christoff had been complaining for sometime suffering from consumption, the result of a heavy cold which while travelling in the East.

On 6 Sept 1958 he married Elizabeth Barham in Tumut NSW, on the Marriage Cert he is listed as a John Henry Christoff, miner and his mother is listed as Rosina Gilham. Fathers occ as joiner carpenter. They had one son George James born 14 Dec 1859 he had just turned 13 yrs when his father died. At the early age of 38 yrs John Henry Christoff died in Sydney 17 Dec 1872 of lung disease on the Death Cert it lists his father as Christoff "circus performer". it also states he was a circus performer born in England and had been in Australia for 15 years.
