http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/652340/FERRIS, J

I am wondering if any of you good people can help me with this one.

On the back of the wills thread i am baffled by John who as you can see got even closer to safety than Gwen's relly.

Joining up in Bittern i am convinced he is a relly of mine...my Ferris family all came from that area and i am wondering if you could link him with my Ferris family in the Bittern area...my dad told me that his dad lost a brother...was it him:confused:

Ironically he died serving in the Wiltshire Regiment....after the Hants regiment was almost totally wiped out.

Any help would be great...

Bingo:biggrin:

Julie and Dave found me Sylvanus a while back...he was my great grandad and had a pub in East Harptree....Julie if you remember you found me his will....he was a real character who married three times...Annie being my Great Grandma.
Wallace was my grandad.

My late dad heard a little about John but in the family he was called Jack(a common name for people named John)

For me this is a great feeling....knowing he was my blood and how the family must have been dismayed that he was a couple of weeks away from making the wars end.

Thanks Horse...Clutton is about 10 miles South of Bristol...near to East Harptree.

Sylvanus Ferris my great grandad was born in Hockworthy Devon...a lovely little village and if i remember Davelambert found his parents also....a blacksmith family for generations i think that Sylvanus was the first one to leave the village....and did well for himself by all accounts.

Lost my copies of the Hockworthy descendants which is annoying as i think they went back to 1799:eek:

If you could refresh them it would be good;)

I think Frances (as on FMP) was the youngest (under 15), not 40 and therefor is not Sarah's husband

I had found this census thinking it was the favourite to be Henry's family (see thread Ferris in Australia ) as Sarah was on her own with children of a similar age to Henry. Can't prove it though.

I would tend to agree that Francis/es is not Sarah's husband and could be any relative, bearing in mind that it is 1841 and not always found in the correct order... One thing is clear though, the image shows her in the female column and there are 2 digits  see excerpt.

Just checked the 1841 transcription again and found this...

Quote:
Name: Francis Terris
[Francis Ferris]
[Frances Elizabeth Ferris]
Age: 40
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1801
[Abt 1828] End Quote.
