I may have gone astray with this one, I have made other posts relating to John but they may not be appropriate now

This is the only piece of info that I can say is correct about him, though his father & occupation is very new to me..

Soham Marriages 1559 - 1956 Parish Records
Groom HAYLOCK John (x)
- Age 24
Status bac
Occupation lab
Address otp
Bride RANKEN Anne (x)
- Age 20
Address otp
Marriage Date 14-Mar- 1857
Licence Details by banns
Groom's Parent son of William Occupation: shoemaker
Bride's Parent dau of James Occupation: lab
Witness 1 LEVVET John (x) Witness 2: HORSLEY Eliza (x)

RD: Newmarket, 3b, 758

Looking for anything on John prior to the marriage and the witnesses. There is a Horsley family associated with this line, unable to see the connection at present.

Many thanks
Geoff

Still can't find anything re John Haylock but there was an Eliza Horsley born Soham 1833 parents James and Mary. She appears in the 1861 Census with her parents.
There was a second Eliza Horsley born Soham 1838, parents Robert, a blacksmith, and Charlotte. She married a Philip Clark in Soham in 1860.

I can also find a John Levet born Soham 1822 parents William and Hannah. He married a Sarah Jackson in 1853.

Unfortunately I can't see any links to the Haylocks except, possibly, as friends.

Thanks, Em'

I couldn't find any more than you did, Levvet was a bit of a nightmare, plenty of them with an array of variants

Horsley comes into the line via John and Ann's daughter Harriet, she married a William Durrant [his mother was a Horsley]. As you say friends more likely, or well removed cousins.

The 1841 and 1851 Censuses have a William and Hannah Haylock living in Cambridge. William is a journeyman Gardener. The do have a son John but according to the 1841 Census he was born 1827. I have always been under the impression (but may be wrong) that ages under 15 years weren't rounded down.

Thanks, Em'..

I still can't be sure that is the correct parents in post #7. Found nothing else on a William Feast Haylock yet

John says his father is a shoemaker when he married, haven't found a William, shoemaker yet, that said not all records give the occ' around that time

Interestingly in 1830 there is a Gardener & Seedsman, William Haylock..

I have found a William Haylock in the 1841 Census in Ely with wife Mary and children including a son John yob 1834. William's occupation is not very clear but it looks like Brook Layer - surely not someone mishearing Boot Maker?

Unfortunately I can't find them in 1851.

Following on from Ellie's find of a baptism for a John Harlock I have found the following

1841
HO107/73/16/F10

Hall Street, Soham
Sarah Harlock 30 Laundrss
Sarah Harlock 11
John Harlock 8
All born in county

1851
HO107/1763/F237/p13
50 Hall Street, Soham
Sarah Harlock Head 40 Married Sausage Maker Soham
John Ginn son 17 Ag Lab Soham
(I think the surname is an error by the Enumerator as the Head of House for No. 51 is also John Ginn)

1861
RG09/1036/F5/p5
Hall Street, Soham
Sarah Haylock Head 49 Married Laundress Soham

1871
RG10/1601/F8/p9
Pratt Street, Soham
Sarah Haylock Head 58 Widow Laundress, Soham

I can't find her after the 1871 Census but neither can I see a death which fits either.
