It looks like widow was written in for Elizabeth then crossed through.
Sarah is in the 1851 census with son John Ginn b 1834. Could this John be from an earlier marriage?? Her status is married, so I would think her status would be the same in 1841 as she is Harlock in both.

I was watching a WDYTYA the other day, they said if something had been recorded and crossed through, it shouldn't have been recorded in the first place. So Elizabeth was probably a widow, but it wasn't necessary to record it.

Re post#41 in the 1841 Census there is an Elizabeth Haylock with son John and daughter Mary.
Fs has the baptisms of John and Mary Ann Haylock at St Marys, Ely on 24 May 1835 parents Robert and Elizabeth

I believe this was in 1841 without checking.. That is the family who I thought was originally correct, mother = Elizabeth Howard and father = Robert, possibly transported in c1836.

John's marriage in 1857 saying his father was William was a bit of a

Apparently Robert was sentenced to 7 years for Larceny. His birth year is given as 1813.

I can't find a 1813 birth/baptism in Cambridge but there is one in 1812, son of Daniel and Sarah, as mentioned in a previous post.

Don't know if the Haylocks in Suffolk are linked in anyway to William, but it kept me quiet for a while following them through.
Yeah, haven't checked this out yet, wouldn't surprise me though, similar thing happened on the other side of this line with the Durrants' - will have a look later..

I've sent for the marriage cert' anyway... It may reveal an odd snippet [or fib :D] that we don't know about.

Got the marriage cert. now, details same as post #1.

As a mater of interest, I used the email route, a little bit quicker and less costly.

I've taken a look at a number of baptisms, none of which were in Soham and could not find a William Haylock who was a cordwainer/shoemaker.
I think the chap you are lookig for is in post 17 William Harlock, he was the only one in Soham other baptisms:

First name(s) ELIZABETH
Last name HARLOCK
Year Of Birth 1831
Baptism date 30 Oct 1831
Abode otp
Place SOHAM
Mother's Given Name Sarah
Father's First Name William
Father occupation cordwainer

First name(s) SARAH ANNE
Last name HARLOCK
Year Of Birth 1829
Baptism date 02 Aug 1829
Abode otp
Place SOHAM
Mother's Given Name Sarah
Father's First Name William
Father occupation cordwainer
