Hi folks.
In 1911 census(at home with family), John Henry Kelly was a Sargeant Major in The Queens Western Regt. Territorial Reserve.
I also think he enlisted in The Kings Royal Rifles in 1892. in Manchester. It appears he served in the 5th. Manchester Regt. I can see, but cannot understand, all his attestation papers on Ancestree. (Lousy writing, and fuzzy eyesight.
).
Private(1892-93), Lance Corporal(1893-94), Corporal(1894-96), Sergeant(1896-99), Colour Sergeant(1900-08 ), Acting Sergeant Major(1908-??).
Discharged after giving 3 months notice. 20 Oct 1914. 22 years & 100 days service.
I think he retired as a Captain, according to his daughters 1935 gravestone.
Anything else that can be found, regarding his military career would be really great.
Steve.
