Everything points to him been born in England, maybe the person who did the obit assumed he was born in VIC. I can't find any births with that name and names of parents in VIC.

Not sure gibbo.

If I was born in England I think I'd know it. :) Has born Ballarat, Vic. in his marriage.

I think the minister was John William Moore. That image I have is very hard to read.

This one is rather odd. Birth before the marriage but not as Warren.

Birth 10720/1864 CLUCAS JANE - JOHN - ELIZABETH - FORBES * 2 Jan 1864

Marriage 2362/1873 CLUCAS JOHN - WARREN ELIZABETH - FORBES * 3 May 1873

Details have been added many years later.

Particulars in columns 5, 7, 9 & 10 obtained from Church Register 2077 ... October 10th 1957

Yes, lots of odd things about this one.

"He died on April 5, 1880, in Parkes, NSW, at the age of 50."

No death for John senior that I can find in NSW.

Age at death points to 1857 not 1855.

I wonder if we are missing a death for the one born England and a birth for one in Vic.

Probably impossible to be sure one way or the other.

This will take a bit of explaining.

The churches had forms to fill in to send to the Registrar General. The forms did not have all the details recorded in the church register.

In 1957 when someone applied for a copy of the certificate then registry looked at the original church register No 2077 and added the missing details.

Particulars in columns 5, 7, 9 & 10 obtained from Church Register 2077 ... October 10th 1957

The details on the issued certified copy should match the church register if no transcribing errors.

There are still plenty of marriage certificates that have NOT been updated with the full details from the church registers and never will be.

Yes, Harriet's death is ok and seems to say John was still alive.

If you order a NSW marriage certificate and don't have access via A... or FMP or film at a library to image of church register you will not know if you have all the details or not. The registry no longer checks the church register to see if all the details are included on certified copies they issue.

Some registers were never filmed - eg. CofE St Mary Balmain.

Thanks Geoff.

Don't know why they do it. That date is date of burial. He died on 18th.

Same with Jane. Buried on 20 and died on 18.

Nicholls (Sydney), ...
